If you cant run as administrator maybe try not installing EQ2 into the default location. Put it outside Program Files... i.e. on C:\EQ2 or another hard drive entirely. Then you dont have to run anything as admin to update.

Now that would be too easy. There must be some other trick to it.

If it does not work, you likely installed it incorrectly. Always try a clean install before reporting bugs.

thank you for helping me, now it installed just fine, except NOW.. the entire bar at the bottom is all jacked up, on BOTH our systems, and on hers there is NO hate meter that comes up when we hit Ctrl+T. the little bar that gives access to the browser or the station is missing from hers.

again thank you for helping me out on this

I think the little bar you are referring to is the start button mod. Right click the xp window and choose minimize. It should appear as a cube on the left hand side of the xp window.

Default thank you

i don't know why my version of profit seems to be different than hers. clicking minimize did show the start bar we were looking for, but on mine it's separate on her's it's built in to the xp window. but all is well now. we still cannot see the hate ball meter ...imma look for an add on for that. thanks for all the glorious help

I go to the site, http://updater.pala.de/, click on the orange 'Launch' button and all I get is an Application Error that tells me 'Unable to launch the application'.

The Error says 'Could not parse launch file, Error at line 0.'

I've tried removing and reinstalling Java and then running the Updater file, and I'm still getting the same error.

Anyone have any ideas?

No one has any idea what's causing this? Is it a Windows 7 problem?

I had no problem with the Updater on my Win7 system, so I don't think it's that. I will point out that I have UAC turned completely off to avoid any Windows nonsense about permissions. I don't know if normal UAC settings might cause problems running Java. Do you have trouble with any other Java programs? I know Sun has web-based programs you could run to test that.

Otherwise, the only time I have had problems running the updater is after running CCleaner to get rid of temporary files. Believe it or not, Java executables for a particular program may be stored in folders that are marked temporary by Windows. I had to set CCleaner to ignore Java or it would blow away the Updater every time it cleaned out the temp files.

The other possibility that comes to mind is some issue with your firewall that interferes with remote execution.

I hope this gives you some ideas to try.

Thanks for the feedback.

I'm leaning more towards the firewall bit. I'm currently using some lovely hotel internet. Hopefully it'll fix itself when I get home this weekend.

Hotel internet? Yes, that raises the specter of firewall issues. If Java needs a port that the firewall won't open, that could explain a lot.

Well, since something is obviously borked on my computer, is there anyway I can download the updated files and manually install them? There have been some changes that I haven't gotten (like the group invite from the guild window.)
