If you have the latest version you should see the following:

Quote:

java version "1.6.0_02"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_02-b06)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.6.0_02-b06, mixed mode, sharing)

Downloading the latest version is a good idea in any case since it contains security updates over previous versions you might have.

If it does not work, you likely installed it incorrectly. Always try a clean install before reporting bugs.
