Default Hotbar Selector Idea

I've been seeing lots of ways to deal with the new resizable hotbar buttons, but most of them have problems, often due to overlapping.

So would it be possible to put one arrow (say, the up arrow) at one end of the bar and bookend it with the other arrow at the other end?

Two ways that could be implemented (for example) would be for the "next" arrow to be in the upper left corner of the bar, and the "previous" to be in the lower right, or for the "previous" to be a left pointing arrow on the left side, and the "next" to be a right pointing arrow on the right.

You mean something like my custom hotkey window?

Left arrow = previous bank, Right Arrow = Next bank.

Well in Serenity I purposely made them full size, and they don't shrink. The reasoning being that if they shrink with the icon size then at real small icon sizes they'll be hard to manipulate. Since in Serenity they are toggled on/off and you typically only show them when you need to use them, the full size is not an issue.

Possible to have bank selectors only show in mouseOver and hidden when mouseOut kind of thing? I haven't looked into myself. NEver really messed with stuff like that, but thought I would ask.

Yes its quite possible. In fact thats how Serenity was originally setup. However I didin't like it, because many people (myself included) often use the mouse to clikc the hotbar for less used items. This means everytime you hover in the selector shows which is annoying. You end up having to put the selector outside the area of the volume page which then adds dead space when its not shown. All in all I personally just didin't like it. What I ended up doing was adding a special button which is basiclly the same as the border on the bar.. clicking that button toggles the bank. The button is invisible except when oyu mouse over, then its just a glow on the border so all in all unobtrusive.

My biggest problem is that I'd like the icons to be as visible as possible, with as little of their viewable area covered by bank selector arrows ... yet not have too much space outside the bank taken up by the arrows either. I know, either way you have to make some kind of compromise.

But here is what I was thinking of, if it's possible to set up like this. It's a crude redo of the first image above, but I'm not very good with graphics programs to do a decent example. And the number is just on that end cause I was playing around with placement, and got to where I thought I had a good enough version to put up here; it could be moved to the other end of elsewhere in case it would block too much of the icon at the right end of the bank.

No, you DON'T comprimise That's why you make the bank selector toggleable and overlay it over the hotbar slots. Then you have no dead space, and you only toggle the selector on when you need to use it. Thats the design many hotbars use.

Alright well, since I use my hotbars over my widscreen black sections it doesn't matter much. If you have an old version of it, that I could use as a base code, I'd love to see it. I'm just basically interested in the only showing on HoverIn so that you could put teh selector wherever (for my personal UI at least)
