I want to setup the tells and everything, just as soon as I close the client and load it back up, all the changes are gone.

Open the utility to the Settings page. Down near the bottom make sure the dropdown says Origins, then click the Reset files button even if the dropdown is correct. Restart the game and your settings should save correctly.
