Systray icon - Network status checker
I know, this is not really an interface request, but I think that it should be rather easy for a programmer to make a little tool that sits in the Systray, which pings some selected server(s) every now and then, and shows if it is online (green) or offline (red). Of course, if the logon server is down, it should be red anyhow.
Or is there something like this already, and am I just using bad search strings?

Still noone? I found a tool, but it hasn't been updated in years, so it doesn't work anymore.

"Up" or "Down" is far too nebulous a thing to resolve with a ping, imho. All it could tell you is that the particular server that you pinged either responded to the ping or not.

Okay, I can relate to that. But apparently there actually was a working tool a while ago. So it has to be possible!

While I don't understand the point of it (just start the client, it'll tell you if it's up) the tools that I know of simply parse the network status page on eq2players. Some are posted on this site, simply use the search function.

Because during server downtimes it can be VERY annoying to always have to try over and over again, or to go to the web page over and over again to see if it's up again.
Okay. I used the search function with the search strings "network status", "network", "server", "parse" or "parser". To no avail. Could you please link to one tool that does it?

I searched for "network status" and the 2nd result on the list was this:
http://www.eq2interface.com/forums/s...network+status
If you're not looking for web-related stuff (which is what gm9 was referring to), then dunno what to tell ya. You could fairly easily make a desktop gadget/sidebar item if you know about web-coding.
Cheers.

Thanks for helping!
I know next to nothing about coding, though. So I have no clue what all the tech babble is all about.
But I will ask on there.
