Default Custom Mouse Pointer?

I can't seem to find any info on changing the Cursor.. I'd like to add my EQ1 animated "swiftwind" cursor to my UI package.

I can't even find the graphic for it in the images folder.. is this hardcoded?

Yeah, the cursor data is somewhere in the executable.

Of course someone correct me if I'm wrong/have been misinformed.

In theory it would be possible to edit the cursors within the executable between patches, then run everquest2.exe directly, but you'd have to re-edit between EVERY patch, and there's no real way of distributing it. And it would probably violate the EULA to do so despite it not altering gameplay.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I wondered if anyone had made any progress/attempts on customizing the mouse pointer? I have a hard time locating the mouse pointer at times, especially during fights, and it would be useful to have a bolder pointer, or perhaps a keystroke that would "target" the pointer for a few seconds so I can quickly spot it. Any suggestions?

I haven't seen anything on these boards that would suggest that the Cursor can be modified. Since it appears that the cursor data is in the Exe file I don't think that it can be touched without breaking the EULA.

Your best bet would be to contact SoE directly (Chat Support is the easiest) and as a last resort use /feedback from within the game and hope that they make some changes for the future.

Bumping this thread to see if anyone has seen any changes since 2007 last year. it is now 2008, and google does not offer up any information on the ability to change mouse cursors in EQ2.

Using microangelo (icon editing software) I could not find any mouse cursor icons in the EQ2 exe and any other file that has icons in the EQ2 folder either. They just have the normal EQ icon you would see on your desktop icons etc.

I went, and scoured every single .DDS file in the ui defualt folder, and none of them had the mouse pointer graphics in there. Boy, did I find a lot of pretty icons though

If anyone could help, it would be much appreciate it. Me and others would like the ability to more quickly find our moust pointers in the heat of combat among all the partical effects Especially those of us who are playing 1920x1200 wide screen while the moust pointer doesn't scale large enough to be easily detectable.

As it is, I have to basically gyrate my mouse in any large circular pattern to get an idea where to find it on screen.

Thanks in advance !

no news, and the game executable is everquest2.exe and it still holds all the cursors, sounds like you were looking at the launchpad.

If it does not work, you likely installed it incorrectly. Always try a clean install before reporting bugs.

Windows cursors and icons have some differences, mainly the ability to have a set coordinate as the click point. If Microangelo only does icon libraries, then I suppose it wouldn't find the cursors.

You can use something like Resource Hacker to extract all of the cursors and then you create a batch file to reimport the changed cursor files. Of course this will change the file's modified date and CRC so the patcher will attempt to overwrite it any chance it gets. Which is why you'd need to make a batch file to import the cursors instead of doing it manually every update.

I sort of have your problem as well... if I had any mouse cursors I actually wanted to use in EQ2, I might figure this out myself. On the other hand... you are modifying the game's main EXE file. You might run into anti-hacking checks and get yourself banned for all I know.
