Default What's the best interface piece to start with?

Hi,

I decided to give UI design a go and thought I'd start with something easy like the player window. But I'm completely confused. I can't find the images for it (I thought I could just re-colour them or something) but all I succeeded in doing was making the bar completely vanish.

So what I'm actually asking, is what is the best/easiest UI piece to edit/alter, so I can learn the ropes..?

Thanks very much,

Depends, do you want to edit the XML files or the images that are used in some of them? Most of the UI works without any images, that's why. If you want to do images, maybe start with the windowelements.dds for the background images. Pay attention to the alpha channel which decides what is shown in game.

The color of the bar in the player window is controlled via the options (Alt-O), no need for any editing.

If it does not work, you likely installed it incorrectly. Always try a clean install before reporting bugs.

Hint: DO NOT try to do an inventory window, it literally takes 12 hours...just to update

Default Starting out

I'd probably start with either the player window or maybe the persona window - both have lots of potential and can teach you quite a bit...

I would recommend the persona window for some easy starting material. Theres a lot of basic stuff you can learn there.

And yes... the inventory window is not as easy as it might look heh. Especially since they've just changed stuff around with EoF =)
