Default [added] Obelisk of Akhzul

My first map, it's not so hard

If you like it, add to EQ2Map

Code:
<ImageStyle Name="exp05_dun_void_pit_0" displayname="Obelisk of Akhzul (room 1)" menugroup="Innothule" zonerect="-793, -502, -482, -139">
<ImageFrame Source="images/maps/map_exp05_dun_void_pit_0.dds" SourceRect="0,0,436,506" />
</ImageStyle>
<ImageStyle Name="exp05_dun_void_pit_1" displayname="Obelisk of Akhzul (room 2)" menugroup="Innothule" zonerect="-126, -199, 220, 203">
<ImageFrame Source="images/maps/map_exp05_dun_void_pit_1.dds" SourceRect="0,0,436,506" />
</ImageStyle>
<ImageStyle Name="exp05_dun_void_pit_2" displayname="Obelisk of Akhzul (room 3)" menugroup="Innothule" zonerect="470, -388, 605, -231">
<ImageFrame Source="images/maps/map_exp05_dun_void_pit_2.dds" SourceRect="0,0,436,506" />
</ImageStyle>

It is much, much, much, easier for us to post your map if you follow the instructions in the guide here:
http://maps.eq2interface.com/index.p...aptutorial&p=9

Posting your .dds files as attachments to your original message allows us to basically hit a single button and put the map live. By posting it as a .zip file, we have to add it manually, which takes a bunch of time and is a pain.

Also, it is helpful (although not required) for you to post .jpg images of the files so we can easily review them.

File Review
These are some very nice looking maps. You have a good attention to detail and you've used the textures quite well.

However, I found several serious issues that need to be addressed before the maps can be posted.
  • All three of the maps use the old template which has a large black space on the side. There is no need for that, so you can just crop your source files to 436x508.
  • Please do not put the name of the map on the map itself. It's fine to put your character name, etc, but the map name shows up in the drop-downs.
  • Style Note (This is not a required change)
    You may find your map looks a bit better if the outermost lines are thicker. It may be too late for these, so don't worry about it.
map_exp05_dun_void_pit_0.dds
Looks very nice, but you have some of your shadow mask layer sticking out on the top and bottom of the center of the map and a bit on the left side. You should be able to fix this by selecting the lines layer with the magic wand tool (outside the lines), then selecting your shadow mask layer and pressing "delete".

map_exp05_dun_void_pit_1.dds
You have similar shadow mask issue, or possibly aliasing issues on the bottom half of the map. The same fix as the prior level should work.

There is also a problem with the parchment layer. It looks like it got moved down some, so it's offset by about 20 pixels. You should be able to just crop off the top and side to 436x508. You may need to redo your zonerect to compensate.

map_exp05_dun_void_pit_2.dds
This is not the final version of this map. There are still cross hairs from the mapper tool as well as some of the mapper text up along the top.

The textures for the center area are leaking out a bit beyond the lines. You can trim or mask them the same way you do the shadow mask.

The upper right portion of the map looks funny to me. I'm not entirely certain how this fits in with the rest of the zone, so it may be fine.

You may wish to add in your character name, etc, to this map.

--

Overall, a very solid first effort. You ought to be able to make the above fixes in just a few minutes.

I'm wondering, how long did it take you to do the coordinate collection and map making? Also, did you read my guide? I'd love any feedback you have on it.

Haha, SaintPeter spent too much time on his tutorial and seems to have picked up on my style to provide feedback to him, but he is meaning well. Very nice first map(s), after you ironed out the few issues he mentioned we'll put it up.

What editor are you using to make the maps? I personally always keep a working copy in the editor's native format so I can make changes later on.

Thanks for being a good sport. I figure its better for you to learn than for us to hold our noses.

exp05_dun_void_pit_2.dds : zonerect = 475, -386, 610, -228

Code:

Sorry to be annoying, but could you fix the canvas for the second DDS while you are at it? It's too large (436x524), the actual map is not located in the top left corner which actually means that the SourceRect will not work as you provided it. Otherwise looks good (your third preview pic still has the mapper2 markings but the dds itself is good)

Great looking maps. I am stoked about getting them. We run this zone often and it is very simple so a map is not really needed. That said, having one means I can see where group members are in the zone and the UI looks complete.

Great job.

Thank you kindly, these should now be live. Grats on your first map, looking forward to more.

PS: Had to "fix" your second map once more myself because there was a white line at the top which I had not seen at first.
