Setting up UI not working

Hey all... My wife finally caved and requested i install a ui for her. im using night_steel.zip and i followed the instructions to a T and the ui wont load up. I replaced her .ini file with the one thats was in the zip. Verified all setting were correct. Installed the map updater and the net framworks and created the eq2.ini file i even reversed the the text in the eq2.ini to see if that was the issue. to no avil im comming up blank. She has never used anything but the default ui since we started about 5 months ago. ive been running the new ui forever and it works fine on my system. Did i miss something or any suggestions?
Also i tried in game /loadui and the default window comes up with no other folders to choose from.

Any help would be glady taken as shes not home atm but will be mad if she finds out i failed.

In what respect is it not working??

1. You dont see the UI
2. It crashes the game once logged in and UI loaded up
3. It crashes at char select screen or sooner
4. Crashes when you open a certain window in game?

Im using the ui from Aneeog = misspelled. And when i load up the game it is still running her default setup. Not the cool ui with all the bells and whistles.

I remover her character.ini file and replaced it with the one that the NEW UI provides but its still comming up the old way.

PS the MAP updater is however working in her default set.up

No matter what i try EQ2 seems to have a file that says run Default only. Why did SoE make this so hard grrr.

what is the name of your UI?

I mean the folder name you use?

Sounds like something is up with the EQ2.ini file.

Double check it and ensure it is looking to the right folder and name, otherwise it will default.

cl_ui_subdir UI/
cl_ui_skinname (name of your new UI)

Just to back track a bit, I've installed and ran Aeeolag's UI, it worked with no problems.

Try again. Create a new folder in the C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest II\UI

Such as C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest II\UI\WifesUI

Unzip the download into C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest II\UI\WifesUI

Change the EQ2.ini file so it looks like this (assuming you are using the default EQ2 directories).

cl_ui_subdir UI/
cl_ui_skinname WifesUI

The new UI should come up.

my EQ2.ini file reads
cl_ui_subdir UI/
cl_ui_skinname custom

the folder doesnt have any sub folders which contain the entire ui.

This is basically an exact copy of what i use on my pc except it doesnt work on my wifes computer.

Something simple, but thought I'd check if the above did not work. Is the EQ2.ini located in C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest II

yup its in the main EQ2 directory

make sure you put the files is teh same directory as the one that is set in the eq2.ini

ok I deleted and started over again. This time i made the UI folder named wifesui. changed the EQ2.ini to read wifesui

installed the EQ2MAP Updater then installed the Files into the wifesui folder. copied the server_character_eq2_uisettings.(1280x1024).ini into the main directory. cut the wifes .ini file and renamed server_character_eq2_uisettings.(1280x1024).ini

Nektulos_hername_eq2_uisettings.ini

made sure her EQ2 settings were 1280x1024

And it still does the excact same thing. Load as if i never installed the ui.

Im baffled.

you have to extract the custom ui files into the wifesui folder

Hehe, interesting.

I cheated last time, I had Aeeolag's project already in a folder, and I noticed he has a new one up. So I've downloaded the latest into C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest II\UI\WifesUI

I changed my my EQ2.ini file to read
cl_ui_subdir UI/
cl_ui_skinname WifesUI

I started EQ2 and it worked fine (for about 2 minutes). I did not do any resolution changes, so am assuming it balked at my configuration, however it did load up and display somewhat fine for the time it ran.

What does your C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest II\UI\WifesUI directory look like. Should have a few sub-folders and quite a list of .XLM documents.

315 files and 23 folders to be exact.
