i know next to nothing about creating mods, but i have no problem installing and using them. even installed the eq2map way before they had the updater without a problem. if you need test help i tradeskill all the time, and would love to help contribute in anyway to the great work you guys do here. i read the thread over at eq2traders, and thought i'd post something over here.

btw the two methods of display are the most common i hear people talk about. they either line up matching icons from Tier 1-4 or 4-1 or they line up the 'set' in Tier 1-4 or 4-1

Personally mine are arranged by tier set from 4 to 1 left to right.

but i think a cool suggestion for a layout that would take both into account would be a layout similar to what i arranged in my book for a screenshot so i wouldn't have to describe it.

if the "hotbar" in this mod was say 3 wide and 4 tall, yet only showed two adjacent tiers at once. it wouldn't get too large i don't think.
optionally you could transpose the table layouti have in the picture to 4 wide and 3 tall with all 4 icons on the same "row". this would lend itself to a verticle mod i'd think.. jsut offering suggestions. i'm really excited about the concept of a high quality mod to the crafting UI. because the default one really annoys me, i jsut haven't found one i like yet.
