Default Changing the art work

Hi =)

If some one could point me to a tutorial Showing the Very beasics of how to get started that would be great.

I dont want to resize anything..or make a window work diffrently than it does now. I just want to change the look..Imges ETC.. of my UI.

But i have nver done this before and simply dont know how to even start.

How do i get a window in the editor? I want to pull the pices apart so i can see what parts i need to make and/or change.

One last thing..This is not the machine that i have my game client installed on..im..uh...at work..

The images are all stored in UI\Default\images. You'll need the DDS plugin for Photoshop/Paintshop Pro available from nVidia's site. (It's in one of the download categories, I forget which offhand...free downloads, or utilities, or something like that)

As far as figuring out which window uses which files to grab its images from, that's defined in the XMLs in UI\Default, but without knowing more about what exactly you want to edit that's about as specific as I can get.

Basicly i just want to pull the windows apart and change the "look" of them..nothing about funcition. I was just poking around with the editor, In screen shots i see you can just pull up a window from the game (How?) and it seems like..i should just beable to change the image the UI or window refers to...but im having a hard time finding the area where thies images are stored.

Does it matter that this isnt the same machine that my game client is on?

Im thinking yes...ut when i downloaded the editor in the comments someone said "you can do this from work now".

Basicly i just need somthing that will show me the basics (with images).

All i want to do is kinda simple (mabye not in doing but in final producet) Is take the elemnts of the windows, like the back ground for exampile..Seems (from what i see while i play) that all the UI windoes use that one background, Brown with a fade to black to lower. I want to replace it..

Along with the Window borders..Im guessing a Left, Right,Top, lower and corners.. (this is the stuff i need to know lol). I wont be chaning the size, funcition or useability of any windows ETC...just the "Look".

Better?

Is DDS the file extent or somthing?

You can look at the basic files by opening your eq2ui.xml file in the UIBuilder (make sure to copy it to a working directory like UI\Working before editting or you'll mes up your defaults.) Make sure you select MainHUD from the tab list on the preview pane to get the images to show. And yes, you'll either need to do it on your EQ2 machine or you'll need to copy your UI files to your work machine.

That will show you how things look, but to edit the actual graphics you'll need to start hacking at the DDS (that's the extension) files in UI\Default\images. The UIBuilder can tell you which ones to edit (SourceResource attribute) and which part of the file is assigned to what (SourceRect attribute.)

Hope that's a bit more clear.

Yes it is, Seems i cant do anything untill i get the OG files (wana host'em lol?)

Im have a good understanding of the DDS now, dosnt seem to hard to be able to convert or create with photoshop what i was intending to do =).

All i need now is the files *nudge nudge*

Sigined,

Bored at work with 10 hours of nothing to do.
