Just want to change a couple icons...

Hey all, I have searched the forums and I haven't found a quick/easy guide on how to accomplish this small task:

I am using ProfitUI (love it btw) and I want to change the detrimental curse icons in the group window (trauma, nox, elemental, etc) to just plain bright red squares when someone has a curable effect. This will make it much more noticable for me when it comes to curing stuff.

In Default/images/icons I found icon_ss22, _as21, _as9 and _ss5. I can see the detrimental icons are in those files. I open them with Photoshop (and the nvidia plugin) and change the icons to bright red squares. This is about as far as I've gotten. I don't know what format to save the file as (dds obviously, but there are like 20+ different kinds) and I don't know if i will need additional code to make them appear?

I saved the custom .dds files into the /profitUI/images/icons folder with the original names...? But yea... didn't work... all I need is a little guidance to get this working. Thanks so much in advance!
