Anyone interested in color maps?
I just farted this one out real fast to see what the maps would look like
in color instead of the default doodoo-brown EQ2 scheme everyone has...
Is it worth colorizing the maps, is there an interest in this type of map mod?
attached is a sample map i colorized from GRY's site.

The gry-online lettering in the bottom left corner leads me to suggest you take that map down now. The site asks no maps be taken from there and used elsewhere. Also, that's just the in-game antonica map fleshed out.
That being said, nicely colored maps of zones that aren't provided by SOE would be very nice to have.

For the purposes of using the in-game map window with the Points of Interest dots, I feel the current single-color maps work best. Don't want to have to pay attention to the map background when color-coding dots.

I like the parchment-style map coloring, myself.

I like the color maps, but this is actually a very important point, i think i would rather be able to see the dots than have a colorful map.

As long as every map is colorized the same way, I don't see how it would be a problem. You know that green, brown, and yellow icons won't show up well, so don't use those colors.
Sounds like a non-issue to me, and minimal effort when compared to the way the colorized maps look so much better.

#1. This map was indeed taken from GRY.
#2. I used it because i didnt want to spend an hour in-game removing the fog-of-war myself.
#3. None of the POIs from GRY's site are included, so i wasnt "stealing" anything.
#4. I left GRY's website on the picture because i love his site and wanted
to give him more exposure and traffic.
#5. This was a TEST to see if there was demand, i spent about 20 min on it
just to see if there was a demand for putting more time and effort into a
project like this, and as nice as GRY's maps are, i would rather wait till i can
extract the raw files and use those as templates before i release a map-mod
like this officially. At which point i would probably STILL give GRY credit just
because his site was the inspiration for me to attempt this.

I was thinking about this also, but i believe that it wont be as large of a problem as i believed it to be.
The colors i have been using have been washed out to a less-vibrant saturation than the primary-secondary colors that have been used in the dots of the most popular map-mod (cant remember name, its on this site).
Red, Yellow, Blue, Green, Orange, Purple should all contrast well to a colorized map, and if i come across a problem in the future, then i can allways wash it out a few notches to achieve a more pleasing contrast.

#1. Look at the number of posts i have.
Why in hell would i know this?
I came and posted this here out of good faith.
I COULD HAVE ripped his map, and spent 5 minutes cleaning up the tell-tale
compression artifacts that distinguish it from in-game screenies, and presented it as my own piece of work, while still saving myself more than
enough time and effort to make it worth it, timewise.
But i didnt, i left it as it was, with some color modifications because i wanted to give him proper credit for the rip.
If he feels as vehimently and vitriolic as you two apparently do regarding the implementation of the "fair-use" act (of which i can endlessly go into) then I just wont use his site, and delete my macro of his website in-game that i use nearly everyday to referr people with location questions.
Please provide this link and i will take my own actions accordingly.

Dude no one was flaming you... take it easy. Just because someone was trying to inform, whether you like it or not, doesn't mean you have to throw it back in their face.

These forums are flame free Epitech and you are the only one who is starting them. The posters in this thread were only informing you of what was going on and some reason you took it as a personal attack.
Clam down before you post again please.
Thanks.

My apologies.
It is your site, and i appreciate the availability to meet here.
However, I just found that rather unpleasant thread regarding the map-usage
and there are just so many things wrong with it, its sick.
Suffice to say i wont be using his site again, nor promoting it in-game any longer.

Edit: I saw you found some of the ordeal we went through so I cut this paragraph out. Originally here I had said Deathbane27 and I had just been looking out for your best interest and the safety of eq2interface.
The second paragraph in my initial post was meant to be complimentary, I'm sorry that that wasn't clear (which I see now after re-reading it). If you want to get in the thick of things with EQ2 mapping you should check out this thread:
http://www.eq2interface.com/forums/showthread.php?t=777
The thread is huge so you'll want to fast-forward to page 31 or 32.

Yeah, sorry about blowing up at you Epitech. Like Quib said, we were trying to avoid another incident with SoulPL.

I'll just say you didn't see a tenth of what SoulPL had initially posted (Dolby removed it and the responses to it to keep the thread intact), and leave it at that. We don't want to give him any excuse to come back here and start that again.

Aye, about 98% of the posts regarding the maps from his site were removed so that the thread could continue in a productive manner. I really think the new map hack not using his maps but ones people here made is much better.
