Use an image editing tool that can load and save .dds files, in my case Photoshop with nVidia dds plug-in. Load the image, turn off the alpha channel, use Marquee or Lasso tool to pick up the area you want to edit. Then use one of the color manipulation tools to change the color, I probably used Color Balance. Save the image without MIP maps. Most of the UI image files are in DXT3 or DXT5 format.
