What are god video cards for running EQ2? I know they need to support DX9.

GeForce 6800 and up?

RADEON 9800 and up?

I'd recommend the Nvidia based 6800+ and with SLI if you can afford it.

i would worry more about getting a dx9c compliant card than just dx9. (which means get a 6800) it'll run faster.

The Sleepless One has a point, and Micro$oft is preparing WGF 1.0 which will replace the DX9.x line

there is the new 6600 out too. currently only in PCI-Express. But I have read that an AGP version is not far behind..

average price is 199.00 and has all the same compatibilty as the 6800.. its the "work horse" version.

Will a nvidia Geforce FX 5900XT 128mb ddr work?

Spec's on it are as follows:
Coreclock: 430MHz
Memory Clock: 735MHz
RAMDACs: Dual 400MHz
Vertices/sec.: 322 million
Memory Bandwidth: 23.5GB/sec.

It is 9.0 capable, after all, i do have a 70 ranger on EQ1 and ya gotta have 9.0 in order to play EQ1 nowadays.

it has to be 6xxx to be shader 3.0.
a 5900 will work tho yes. i think the only semi current thing that wont fuction are the mx cheapo video cards. Dx9 is not hard to come by, even my Geforce 3 works....
...

i'm depressed now...

I've got a GeForce 5200, does that mean I'm screwed and it will lag big time? I'm not that up on video cards and don't really understand what the shader 3.0 you're talking about is but it sounds like I'm s.o.l.

latest? yes, greatest? hardly

it may be faster than agp8x atm, but it's still serial to the processor, so if you have more than just a video card in your PCI-Express buss they will all be sharing the same path to the proc, slowing everything down. Serial is now and forever will be a bad idea

personally my next machine will be built when Nvidia finishes their NForce 5 chipset which supports IGP (Independant Graphical Port) or wait for NForce 5pro which supports IGA (Independant Graphical Array) which will be used for the gen2 of SLI cards

yeah, if you don't have one on you're motherboard now, upgrading will mean getting a new processor, video card, and prolly new ram. luckly, pci express cards (right now) aren't any faster than the agp counterparts.

the only thing to get excited about is companies like nvidia turning a pci express 16x into 2 8x slots and running 2 video cards in tandem

you found a few already, any 6600 (when they come out in agp) or 6800s.

PCI Express allow you two use two video cards in tandem now. So you can buy two, and get the processor speed doubled. Unlike AGP there are more than one PCI-Express slots on that type of MB.
