Wow this one has me stumped but we will get to the bottom of it.
Annabettin how different are yours and you husband's computer? It's odd that it runs on his and not yours. ... I'll keep looking for a possible solution.

Not too much diff on the specs. We bought them at the same time last year so neither is old. He runs Intel P4, I run AMD. He runs Radeon and I run GeForce. Sound cards are the same. RAM is the same. I have a DVD burner, he doesn't. We're both on XP Pro SP2. His system is for gaming and net browsing only. I do graphics and video on mine in addition to gaming. I have other things on mine that his doesn't like a pen tablet for the graphics, a movie box for getting analog video in the system and back out after editing....*thinking*....also on mine is the printer with card reader slots. It has sep. drivers for the 'removable media storage'.
I haven't coded anything in a few years but none of that is raising a red flag on possible culprits. I went from XP Pro base to SP2 in one fail swoop. So last night, I took it back to XP Pro base, installed SP1a, then installed SP2 and all the updates just in case there was an oddball thing missed. After posting this, I'm going to make sure I have the latest Java installed and see what I can find out on getting that MS JIT and/or VM on the options.
I really appreciate the persistance in finding the solution.

What's the full name of the folder you installed the updater to? I.e. Is it really E:\Data|Games\...? (Not that it isn't possible, just don't usually see folks use pipes in folder names)

Renegade,
What version of Windows are you trying to run the program on, do you have .Net framework installed?

windows 2000, i believe .net framework is installed.
@ger E:\Data|Games\Sony Online Entertainment\Everquest II\UI\EQ2MAP
EQ2MAP = custom folder in the UI folder. EQ2MAP contains all the files from the old 'eq2map.zip' file.
(Btw, im just guessing that the updater.exe was only supposed to install 4 files)

I would check to see if you have all the Service Packs for 2000 installed, and double check on the .Net framework. Needs to be 1.1 or better.

Sorry, but to be blunt..."i believe the .net framework is installed." doesn't cut it
Go get the newest version. Get the beta, it works great. The link is above.
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=316091
^^ And I quote:
PROBLEM
"Mscoree.dll Could Not Be Found" Error Message When You Try to Run a .NET Executable File
SYMPTOMS
When you create a .NET application executable (.exe) file, copy the file to a computer on which the .NET Framework is not installed, and then attempt to run the .exe file from that computer, you may receive the following error message (or messages): Unable to Locate DLL - The Dynamic Link Library mscoree.dll could not be found in the specified path.
Please set registry key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\.NETFramework\InstallRoot to point to the .NET Framework install location.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs if the Microsoft .NET Framework is not installed on the target computer. Applications and controls written for the .NET Framework require that it be installed on the computer on which the application or control runs.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, install the .NET Framework on the target computer. To do this, browse to the following MSDN Web site: How to Get the Microsoft .NET Framework
http://msdn.microsoft.com/netframework/downloads/howtoget.asp
HEHE, FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS AND HAVE NO MORE PROBLEMS!

What I see that your path statement is incorrect.
path E:\Data|Games\Sony Online Entertainment\Everquest II\UI\EQ2MAP
Updater ;.;C:\WINNT\system32;C:\WINNT\system;C:\WINNT;C:\WINNT\system32;C:\WINNT;C:\WINNT\S ystem32\Wbem;C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI Control Panel
If that is your path statement you must correct the ;.; to read only ;
Each path must be seperated by only 1 ;
To correct this and/or verify you path statement, right-click on My Computer icon on desktop, click on advanced tab, then click evironmental varibles button. Select path and verify the statement then click set. Close all windows and reboot.

;.; is correct. It means "include the current working directory in the search for files." Usually you won't see a Windows system without it, but certain UNIX style systems don't have it in by default. It makes life very, very difficult.

Would it be possible to use Windows' default browser instead of Internet Explorer when clicking links from the updater?
Reason I ask is because myself and a few friends who use EQMAP swear by Firefox.

What am I doing wrong?
I notice, for example, that there are many maps on the official EQ2map website that I can index and look at, such as the Tomb of Night I, II, and III. HOWEVER, in game I am unable to see the maps for those zones.
Are my shortcuts pointing to the wrong folders? What EXACTLY do I need to configure to get this to work? I have the latest Fetish UI which is supposed to include EQ2map, and I do indeed get POI's on the screen for many of the common zones in Qeynos or whatever, but I am seeing nothing for all the new zones, etc.
I can't find anything to clarify this anywhere, but then I'm probably missing something right in front of my nose. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Updater does nothing...
I have downloaded the static files (eq2map.zip) and unzipped them to my custom UI folder. All works great within the game. Great work.
Today I decided to go for the auto updater. Downloaded EQ2MAP_Updater_0.97_Setup.exe and installed to the "C:\Program Files\Games\EQ2MAP Updater" directory. I now have the following files:
AxInterop.SHDocVw.dll
EQ2MAP_Updater.exe
Interop.SHDocVw.dll
uninst.exe
When I run the program is verifies the EQ2 exe location and then nothing. I have checked in Task Manager and there is a EQ2MAP_Updater.exe running but I dont see the UI for the application.
I have .NET Framework 1.1 Version 1.1.4322 SP1 installed.
Any ideas or have i just missed something?

i think i can get it to work for you, go to the shortcut you use to open the updater and add:
/noautoscan
to the end of the target line, so that it look like:
"C:\Program Files\EQ2MAP Updater\EQ2MAP_Updater.exe" /noautoscan
Your path may be different if you installed it somewhere else besides the default location. i *think* that may fix it for you, however you will have to click the update button when it opens, it wont start updating when its opened. let me know wether it fixes it or not for you.

Thanks for the quick reply but that made no difference.
There is nothing in the event log either.
Any other ideas?

no, i really dont know what else you can try besides just restarting your computer and make sure that there isnt any cpu intensive processes running in the background. also can you go check and see ifit made an eq2map folder in your custom folder and if there are any files in there?

You have to install the .NET Framework 64 bit beta for it to work. There are links to it earlier in this thread.

This program! So cool!
I'm a fairly new player and an old woman to boot. First, let me say that this thing rocks! I was ALWAYS getting lost in those sewers/caves/etc. I am amazed by how much work and talent went into this thing! Let the community know if you need $ donations.
Second, your level of professionalism is evident. Most people don't care about your language. Such a silly thing, the bad language bugaboo. Course, maybe that's why I ended up in Freeport instead of the world of goodness and light.....
Again, THANKS.
