Question about maps

I have been using Map Updater for a while now and i must say great work guys love your work.

My question is if you zone into an area you havent been before ie Lavastorm is it normal for the map to be blacked (poi's are there) until you explore and the maps clears where you explore? Just wondering if this is normal.
