Default target TOGGLE change in last patch

There was a change in the July patch that lets some of the targeting key
toggle.

If you are a pet class this came really mess up your hot keys.
1/2 the time I find I am invising my pet or warding pet and not me.

/target_self ( F1) will target pet some times and
/target_pet (shift F1) will target YOU sometimes.

/target (your name here) is not helpfull as it would need a pause is hot key macro. (i.e. the command seems not to complete before the next line in the macro finishes)

--------------------
This is my question:

The escaps key does a kind of target deselect and I need to know the correct command to deselect targeting. I think it is /target_none

invis hot key: that seems to work:
/target_none
/target_self
: ; Usea Cloak of Mist

------------------------

more background information :

if you do not have a pet F1 will just target you - hitting F1 again if you have a pet will target pet, before the change you used Shift-F1 to get pet.

now if YOU are already the target then using F1 or /target_self with select the pet. Also if pet is the current target using /target_pet will select you.

I have no idea if this is a bug or just the way the /target command work.

Unfortunatly, that was one of the "features" SOE added in LU12 [Patch Notes] :
- Hitting a function key a second time will now target that character's pet. For example, hitting F2 once will target that group member. Hitting F2 again will target that player's pet.

But I think you found a great workarond using /target_none first. If you are looking for something to use as a pause in a macro I like to use the Catalogue Creature skill. As far as I know any class can get it as soon as they get a catalogue quest, it has a 3 sec cast time, and it can be used both in/out of combat.
