This mod converts all of the existing fonts to Arial. If you wanted to use, say, Verdana instead, you can open the files with Notepad or your favorite text editor, search for all instances of "Arial" (INCLUDING the quotes), and replace with "Verdana" (again, in quotes) or the font of your choice.

Wondering if there's any way to change the only the font used in the chat windows. I recently had eye surgery & the regular Arial font is a bit thin now for legibility on the fly & I'd like to try some bolder windows fonts in the chat boxes to see if that helps as my eyes recover fully. I looked at the font UI xml file and guess that if I change where it says Arial to something else I have on my system that should work, but want to make sure there's nothing else I need to do, as I ONLY want to alter the fonts used in the chat boxes & don't want to mess anything else up. Any advice appreciated.

The third and fourth lines of eq2ui_fonts.xml are thus:
So I tried changing the "Arial" to Verdana in the appropriate lines of eq2ui_fonts.xml file, but when I boot up the game after saving the file the chat boxes are still using Arial and when I re-open the eq2ui_fonts.xml file after exiting the game the lines I changed are back to Arial as well :-(
did you put the changed file in to a new folder? if you changed the file in the default folder, the client would download a new copy from the server.. since EQ2 will keep the default folder "clean". the game won't allow you to modify any file in there since they want that folder to be pure and up-to-date with whatever is officially released by SOE.
After I last posted I experimented by putting a copy of the eq2ui_fonts.xml file in my custom UI folder with all the other mods. Sure enough, Verdana in the chat boxes! Thanks for your reply though :-)
