Help.....Vista
I have vista 64 bit and am having issues getting ui to download on new computer. When I run the setup it makes the icon on desktop for deadbeats. When I go to open it, it asks for me to select my everquest II directory. Now i found the folder under C:/Program Files(x86)/Sony/EverquestII/Dbsmod click on full install and the screen goes away. Now if I open DbsMod folder geezer and deadbeats files are not there. I have tried and cannot figure out what to do, would greatly love the help....going crazy without deadbeats.

actually what it wants to do is create a folder called everquest2.exe and place your dbsmod folder and ui folder in that folder. so there definately is something thats not working, now I don't know if this is cause I download the game via the launcher and it patched things that way the game was not installed via a CD.

the problem i'm encountering is basically that the installer wants to make a folder according to either EverQuest2.exe or EQ2.exe, and doesn't put the downloaded files into the UI folder.
due to having either an "EQ2.exe" or "EverQuest2.exe" already available for the game itself as an executable, the updater can't make the "folder/file" and gives you the error.
At least this is what i'm logically seeing whilst using the updater.
the steps i've taken to get past this issue:
1) I've renamed the exe to .bak and let the updater download everything.
2) i've selected everything from the folder created by the updater and cut and pasted it to the folder above combining it with the existing folders.
3) deleted the folder with the .exe in the name
4) renamed the EQ2/EverQuest2.exe.bak back to being an executable
5) ran the game and it was using deadbeats UI
however, the issue lies within the updater, and has to be resolved if the UI has to be kept on auto-update
i still had 1 question though, i've managed to install the UI finally, but do i need to use a certain code or something to get it the way its in the screenshot, since the default placement of the windows is just one big mess compared to the nice and tidy screenshot provided on the UI info page. (eq2 ui noob here :P)
edit: after thinking about it most of the time since posting the above, my thoughts kind of came to the conclusion that the updater isn't working as it should, since under xp it points to for example:
"C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest II\EQ2.exe"
and under vista (yes i have 2 computers running different OS)
"C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest II"
Under XP i cant seem to make the install path to look the same as under vista, the updater simply pastes the .exe at the end of it. Which ultimately results in the program wishing to download the files to "C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest II\EQ2.exe\..." (or whatever .exe is defined in the install path.
the strangeness however is that you would expect such idiot behaviour from vista and not xp

Stills sounds like a path issue. The correct path for everything:
\Everquest 2
..\DBsMod - installer/updater goes here
..\UI
....\DeaDBeaTs - ui files here including EQ2Map

The installer needs to be installed in DBsMods folder under your Everquest 2 folder. When you run it, it will create a DeaDBeaTs folder under *\Everquest 2\UI\
Since I don't include EQ2Maps any longer the steps to include it:
Install DeaDBeaTs and run a full install
Install EQ2Maps pointing it to the DeaDBeaTs folder
Run DeaDBeaTs and run an update (this replaces EQ2Map customized files)
From that point on just run update on both once a week or so.
Can you look in the DBsMod folder and see if there's an 'error.txt' file and copy the contents here? It will have more info on what's going wrong.
|
Eq2maps installed itself into \everquest2\ui\DeadBeaTs
By default (if I don't change it), DBS installs into \everquest2\DbsMod
The readme files say that mods should install as a subdirectory of UI, but that doesn't happen unless you override the default settings during install.
I uninstalled and reinstalled DBS again into the \everquest2\ui\DeadBeaTs folder and ran it, and it failed when I attempted "full install" or "update". No matter what I type into the path of the mod updater, it fails.
"Full Install" pops up with the same error text I copied a few messages back, but it does not generate error.txt or anything close to that in any subdirectory of everquest2. It apparently encounters that error and can't even write error output.
There is an "update.txt" file that gets written to the main \everquest2 directory:
\DeaDBeaTs
eq2ui_popup.xml
eq2ui_popup_hirelingoptions.xml
eq2ui_inventory.xml
eq2ui_inventory_marketplace.xml
eq2ui_mainhud_persona.xml
eq2ui_mainhud_effects.xml
eq2ui_mainhud_detrimental_effects.xml
eq2ui_playerhousing.xml
eq2ui_journals_quest.xml
\DeaDBeaTs\InfoCenter
includes.xml
"Update" gives me the "bell" of a failed message (similar to the sound a modal window informational or error popup), but the application completely exits with no indication of what is going on.
Makes me wonder if there is an ACL (access control list) entry or security permission setting that is different in the digital download of EQ2 and the DVD version. Upon examination, I don't see anything screwy going on there in terms of security or sharing.
I can't find any relevant UI xml files except for those that exist in the \everquest2\ui\Default directory.

The download is for the Installer/Updater, once installed it needs to be run to actually download and install my mod. Best suggestion at this point is to uninstall through Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs then reinstall.
Then try a full install again.
The character boxes are used to create a custom shutdown window in-game to allow you to switch between characters on the same account and server quickly. Leaving them blank will not break anything.

If I run EQ2, no UI mod appears, and using the "loadui" command shows only the default.
If I run the Mod Updater program, it brings up a listing where I am supposed to enter character names and server. Considering that I use multiple servers, I'm not quite sure what to put there, but that's beside the point.
If I click "update" it runs and exits quickly after doing nothing.
If I click "full install" it almost immediately brings up an error message:
Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.
Cannont create "C:\Program Files\Sony\Everquest II\EverQuest2.exe" because a file or directory with the same name already exists.
If I click "Continue" to bypass the error message, it says that it is downloading files, but I see no progress indicator, and can detect no download activity across my router.
Help?
P.S.: I am new to EQ2. I downloaded the 15-day test drive and then upgraded to the full version of TSO and paid my subscription. I have not (yet) attempted to install other mods. Yours was the first.
