Unhappy Suggested path to save EQ2 updater is not working.

Well first off after playing for a few years of EQ2, I took 20 months off so its all new to me just about. My brain is fried after uploading, and buying that Shadow pack, and I have placed the collector edition of the upcoming Tyrant release on reserve. (mostly for the ingame mount) =P Sooooo, this is my problem. (i tried loading up the game from my original silver tin can edition of EQ2, and my system had a heart attack. I had to go through the SoE EQ2 site to get the game launcher. This being said....

I am not sure what the path should be on my Hard Drive. What the updater suggests for me to place the updater is at:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\EQ2MAP Updater\EQ2MAP_Updater.exe"

However when i click on the desktop short cut to the EQ2 updater all that happens is a window opens up with the path:

"C:\Program Files\Program Files"

and I get folders on their starting from Alwil Software to Window Sidebar.

The only path I see with the word Sony on it is:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony Online Entertainment"

and that folder is empty. I did try to install the updater to the empty folder, and it did the same path as mention up above:

"C:\Program Files\Program Files"

I am running windows 7. I do not know what else to do. Im goimg

Please help me, thank you very much.

Try looking here: "C:\Users\<Your Username>\AppData\LocalLow\Sony Online Entertainment\Installed Games\EverQuest II Streaming\

That's where the new streaming patcher installs.

I also am new to Windows 7. When I do a search using what I assume is Windows 7 equivalent to "Windows Explorer", I also get the path LORD recommends. However, when I try to look up that path without the search, I get as far as C:\Users\<users name>\ ... but no APPDATA subdirectory shows ... as I am used to seeing it in Windows Explorer for Windows XP.

Why is that subdirectory ... and all the others in that path hidden?

I know this is a Windows 7 question (not Eqimap) but any help would be appreciated. Thanks

It's hidden because it's normally used only by programs (at least in normal usage). Enable viewing hidden files and it will show up.

To my knowledge, SOE is working on a better, less arcane (and also less hidden) directory for the new patcher(s).

Not sure if this thread isn't mixing up EQ2MAP updaters and EQ2 updaters?

Regarding the EQ2MAP updater which is the topic of this forum it does not matter where you install it.

If it does not work, you likely installed it incorrectly. Always try a clean install before reporting bugs.

LORD. Thank you for your reply on "hidden files". Saved me a lot of time.

GM9. THis involves both updaters in a way. When I run the EQ2map updater it "guesses" "C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony Online Entertainment" as the residence of the EQ2 exec file ... which as the OP said is an empty directory ... even with hidden files shown. The map updater asks for confirmation; but if you click "no" it gives you an opportunity to change the path to the one where the EQ2 exec file resides.

I have selected the programdata pathy mentioned by LORD .. but now am getting some permission type errors which I am working on.

Specifically the error messages I am now getting are:

Error Opening Database File: mscorlib
at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath)
at System.IO.Directory.InternalCreateDirectory(String fullPath, String path, DirectorySecurity dirSecurity)
at System.IO.Directory.CreateDirectory(String path, DirectorySecurity directorySecurity)
at EQ2MAPUpdater.MainWindow.DownloadUpdates()Access to the path 'C:\Program Files (x86)\EQ2MAP Updater\cache\' is denied.

See immediately preceeding post. Thanks.

Default My Bad ... Sorry

This last problem was covered in the troubleshooting directory. Very first one under common problems. Everything is working.

My apologies if I wasted anyone's time.

LORD. No wonder this is rated as a "must have"! Too bad I didn't get it installed until after my first week of the game! Sure makes things alot easier!
