Default chat channels

I seem to remember folks talking about this a while back but i can't seem to find anything about it now. I can't keep custom chat channels to one chat tab. If i join Raid channel in the tab where i have guildchat and raidchat I also see Raid Channel in the tab where i want only Tells. Any suggestions?

in your eq2 folder generally c:\program files\sony\everquest 2\ is a file eq2.ini open this and add

chat_allowduplicatechannels 1 to it

in the game right click on the tab you want tells to go to or create a new tab and call it tells then select that tab left click it to select then right click and filter our (uncheck) everything but tells chat.

in tabs you want to see more than once like guild chat in both raid tab and guild tab you can now have both.

Sometimes the UI-File did also bug out.

But as it is now a XML-File you can easily edit it yourself. Look in your main EQ2 folder. There should be an CHAR_SERVER_uisettings.XML file.

You can open it with any UTF-8 compatible editor. At the bottom should be a section including all you chat windows and tabs where also is listed which channels are shown. The game channels are hard to find out, as they are listed as one series of "0" or "1" bur below you will find the entries for your custom channels.
btw: The "new" uisettings file format is great for manual editing!

Thanks for the advice, but i am still stuck. I think my question was worded wrong. i don't want to have chat text duplicated in more than one tab. i want the raid channel or defilers channel to stay in one tab. I don't want the channel chat to fill up the chat tab where i have to see raidchat and guildchat. So, adding the chat_allowduplicatechannels 1 doesn't help there I don't think.

I couldn't find a CHAR_Server file but i did find a server_char uisettings file. I wasn't really able to figure out what i was supposed to change there. This was the xml code that seemed to pertain to chat.

i would really appreciate being able to have raid channel and so on in a separate tab without having it also appear the the other tabs. Thanks in advance for anyone who has some info on this.

Unless that was finally fixed all custom chat channels will always also go into your first tab, hence the need to duplicate them to the tab where you really want them.

I don't mean to be Dense but i don't WANT them duplicated. I want them in their own tab. Are you saying the same thing?

yes and adding that command I gave you to eq2.ini will allow that.

Try it and also make sure you're clicking the tabs then right clicking them to set chat options

When you join a new chat channel, it will appear by default in your first tab. To have it appear in a different tab, you *HAVE* to duplicate it into that other tab... and then delete it from the first one. (You can pick which custom channels appear in each tab from the "chat options" menu. But if you delete a channel from your first tab without having already duplicated it into another tab, you'll simply be removed from that channel.)
