Default EQ2 Map

This is probably a very newby question, but, as someone not an expert in this area, it has puzzled me a while.

What is the reason for Zonx advising to make certain files read-only? Is it because the EQ2 map updates that would be made are unnecessary? Or is it that personal customisations to maps would be lost?

Sorry if this is a dense question!

Files that the updater would update that have been modded would need to be set to read only so the updater wouldn't update them files.

Or in more concrete terms: Currently the only differences you will see if you do NOT set the files to read only: the EQ2MAP updater will overwrite the Fetish map2.xml file with the default EQ2MAP version, which means you will get a custom fog overlay image instead of just black fog in Fetish, and also you get automatic recentering of the full screen map on your position when you open it.

There used to be an issue with the _skinnable files for a short while but the EQ2MAP updater is no longer overwriting these at the moment.

Some changes where made to the EQ2Maps updater over the weekend that may make it safe to leave all files as writable. I'll check this out and post the results soon.
