I'm not sure what you are referring to or why this mod would impact it being back or not. Do you mean the black areas as pictured above where you haven't been yet? Anyone else notice it?

Wanted to add that in addition to being able to mark this as a favorite you can also select to receive an email message when one of your favorites is updated.
Just click favorites at the top and then settings/preferences from the options on the left.

1. Do the POIs update automatically when EQ2Map updates theirs?
|
No. But before every time I post an update of this mod I run the EQ2Map Auto Update program on my PC. And then the files I include for the Finder are generated off that update. So it will have all the latest POI's as of that day.

2. If they don't, what do I do?
|
Well you can keep an eye on this page for my next update (adding it to your favorites helps since it will add a notice to the main page when I do update it). The more POIs that get added, the more often I update. So around new expansion time like now I'll update twice a week. Later on when new POI information is less frequently added I'll slow to once every 2-4 weeks or so.
However if you feel you must always have the latest Finder links for all POIs on a daily basis, look for Jnil's POI FInder updater utitlity (sold separately ).

3. If they don't, do I follow those instructions for equi_custom.xml? Or is that just for bigger versions changes?
|
Once you make it work fine once, you shouldn't have to mess with the xml files again in any way. Basicly just download the zip file, extract it to the POIFinder Install Directory, and you are set to go Some future updates might require more work, but they should be rare and if so I'll make sure I announce it in big yellow letters like I do now for version 1.30+. For example, Version 1.35 didn't require any extra steps so long as you had previously installed 1.30 and gotten that to work. But would have if the last time you downloaded this it was based off version 1.20.

4. Do your version changes refer to your script version changes or to data (POI) changes?
|
I usually ID each download as "version - date". If I change the version part, it means I updated how the mod works on some functional level. If the date changes (as it does every time since I always use the latest map files) it is a reflection of new POI Links from the latest map updates. Most of the time the version is unchanged but the date changes.

Apologizing in advance for being such a newb. I just started using your mod with RoK, which is being updated very fast in EQ2Map. So I want to update my POIs in the POI finder.
I have read your instructions 3 times and I still don't understand how to update my POIs with the latest POIs. I do have ProfitUI and I have version 1.3x of the POIFinder.

4. Do your version changes refer to your script version changes or to data (POI) changes?
Sorry for all these questions, but I am just lost here. And I love your mod.

Re: Search POI

I find it hard (as a relative newbie to EQ2) to sometimes find a specific POI object because of the inconsistant naming convention. Would it be possible to add a simple text search on the POI's so that i can find all "spiders" if i need too?
|
I'd love to add that feature too. But unfortunately the kinds of things that can be done scripting-wise are relatively limited and I'm afraid a search engine is simply not doable. Though if any UI-hacking geniuses are out there think I'm wrong, feel free to prove it
There is one possible work around though... It might be possible to have a text box and search button forward a search to a website online somewhere sort of like how the web links in some quest window mods work. I wonder if it could be tied to http://maps.eq2interface.com/poi.php?action=search in some way...

Search POI
First off, kudos for a great job making this mod! I only have one suggestion as of now....

Okie dokie! Deleting the mainhud did it! I was afraid to delete it previously because I was afraid my other mods may not work. But at this point...because nothing else worked I figured worse case scenario I could bring it back.
Yaays!

I have the same problem (no POI finder window showing when the button is clicked) and tried the fix quoted above and it still does not work. I have checked and double checked...my edits to mainhud, eq2ui_custom and eq2ui are correct and my files are in the correct folders and named and/or renamed correctly...Any thoughts?
When I initially had trouble with my POI finder during ver 1.30, I scrapped my entire custom UI folder and reinstalled all of the latest versions of my mods, including eq2map updater and maps. So this trouble is coming from a purely fresh install.
|
In a clean install you shouldn't be using the eq2ui_mainhud.xml file at all. Delete it unless you are positive you need it in your mod directory for some other mod. And if you do need it, you shouldn't be adding anything more to it for this mod. While I'm not sure if that's your problem, the POI Finder doesn't use it anymore so it would at least shorten the list of suspects to remove it. For the eq2ui_custom.xml file make sure you just rename the example version instead of trying to edit it yourself. eq2ui.xml is the only one you may have to edit.
What are the other mods besides EQ2map and POI Finder that you use?
Quote:
One thing that may be causing a problem...(this is totally a guess on my part because I don't know how xml works) is that I have special map and POI icons installed that are smaller, it is a .dds file that is in a eq2map subfolder called icons. May be totally unrelated...but I don't use fetish or profit or anything like that so....it's my grasp at an answer.
|
Yeah, I'm also pretty sure that is not the problem.

Yep that explains why it just worked fine with eq2maps as the only mod...
Working here with fetish now as well with <include>eq2ui_custom.xml</include>
added to the eq2ui.xml

Well, I figured out the problem on my own. And you may want to add this into your instructions.
If you don't already have an eq2ui_custom.xml, when you create it/copy it from Default, you need to add <include>eq2ui_custom.xml</include> to your eq2ui.xml file.
Added that one simple line to that file, and taadaa! it works like a charm! (Now to update my POIFinder to be the latest version...)
Thank you so much for a wonderful mod, and I'm so happy to finally have it working again!
|
I was confused at first by this because I didn't seem to have an eq2ui.xml file anywhere in my mod files. But then I realized that it can be found in the UI/Default directory. Its just not a file that any of my UI mods overwrite. The default version of eq2ui.xml already has the include for eq2ui_custom.xml in it but I'm guessing the version that came with Fetish or whatever mod you have that does overwrite the default eq2ui.xml didn't include it. So, yes in that case updating the modded version of eq2ui.xml to add the eq2ui_custom line would fix things Glad you got it working and thanks for the tip.
