URL Helper
With the removal of the in-game browser, Web links encountered in the UI must now be opened with an external browser. The DarqUI URL Helper, which is part of the DarqUI Unified Notifications app, watches your chat log for special lines containing Web addresses. When it encounters an address, it opens the page in your default Windows browser (Edge, Firefox, etc.) These custom DarqUI links support the feature:
  • Examine Item, Recipe and Spell Effects
  • Target and Implied Target
  • Active Quests (Quest Helper)
  • Active and completed Journal Quests
  • Collections
  • Inspect Player
  • Harvesting Helper
  • Tradeskills
  • EQ2MAP Add Points of Interest (POI)
  • Character (Krono FAQ)
  • Window Manager (ACT link)

Using the DarqUI URL Helper

To use the URL Helper, start the app before logging in to the game, then activate the feature on the URL Helper page.

If logging is not turned on, click the blue "Click here to turn on logging" link that appears in the window.

You can close the window and the app will continue to run as a small icon in the system tray near the clock. With the URL Helper running in the background, the app will transfer Web link requests from the chat log to your default browser using a private chat channel known only to you. Note that only gold and silver memberships can use the URL Helper. Free accounts cannot chat in private chat channels, and therefore will not be able to use this feature.

When you log out of the game, the helper is suspended so you can leave it idle in the background if you prefer. The app can be placed into your Startup folder, or you can open it manually as you would any typical Windows application. To close the app, right-click the tray icon and click Exit.

Fullscreen Windowed Mode

Opening the Windows browser while playing in full screen can be inconvenient because it takes the game out of fullscreen mode, causing the interface to behave unpredictably. Rather than the compromise of playing EverQuest II in a smaller window, the helper app provides a fullscreen windowed mode command.

When activated, the command hides the window frame and resizes your game window to fill the entire screen like fullscreen mode, but it is technically in windowed mode. This allows you to [Alt+Tab] to other applications or mouse over to a secondary monitor without the graphical issues that come with switching between full-screen and windowed modes.

FSW mode using Window Manager You have several options for switching the game window to fullscreen windowed (FSW) mode. On the Browser configuration page of the Window Manager are buttons for entering fullscreen windowed mode (Expand now) and returning to standard windowed mode with titlebar and frame (Restore frame).

FSW mode using a macro You can also create hotbar macros for the commands to avoid opening the Window Manager.

To enter fullscreen windowed mode:
show_window MainHUD.Browser.FSW

To restore frame and titlebar:
show_window MainHUD.Browser.RestoreFrame

FSW mode using an alias Instead of using hotbar icons, you can create aliases for entering and exiting fullscreen windowed mode. This option is very easy to set up, and gives you two simple commands to type into the chat window.

In your main EverQuest II folder, find and open eq2.ini in Notepad. Add these lines:
alias fsw:show_window MainHUD.Browser.FSW
alias fswoff:show_window MainHUD.Browser.RestoreFrame
Now restart the game and type /fsw to enter fullscreen windowed mode, and /fswoff to return to standard windowed mode with titlebar and frame. Note that you can change the commands to something other than fsw and fswoff by editing the lines in eq2.ini.
