Default EQ2Map is not being used by EQ2

After reading the FAQ and some postings, which didn't help me, I'll have a go at it:
- I downloaded the auto-updater and let him install the mod.
- I started EQ2 from the updater and because I have not played EQ2 before, nor seen the map mod in action, thought it was working. It was not, I only get the normal EQ2 maps. I noticed that after visiting Fallen Gate and seeing no map (but thought I should).
- I checked the install instructions on the EQInterface website and everything seems to be where it should be.
- I downloaded ProfitUI (which includes the maps) and drew another blank. The UI sems to be correctly installed, and the INI file points to it. But when trying /loadUI in game, the only interface I see is "default".

So somehow EQ2 doesn't recognize that there are mods present. The question is, how can I get it to do so?

(I run Vista, and no, you don't need to tell me that I should start in admin mode, and aside from this problem EQ2 runs fine.)

Run the EQ2MAP Updater, click on options and select your Everquest 2 path - sounds like you are were updating to the wrong one. Should be the same one you installed ProfitUI to (assuming your ProfitUI works, your /loadui comment implies it might not work - in the latter case find your correct EQ2 folder on your disk). Also make sure that ProfitUI is selected as the UI Directory (should happen automatically but can't hurt to double check).

PS:
  1. ProfitUI does not include EQ2MAP.
  2. Never use /loadui

If it does not work, you likely installed it incorrectly. Always try a clean install before reporting bugs.

Also you may be missing the eq2.ini file in the EQ2 directory which tells the game to use mods, etc.

If you use the MAP Updater it should create the eq2.ini file for you.

As you can't see anything ingame it probably has the wrong path to the game, right click the desktop icon for eq2 and check properties for the right path to your everquest2 folder.

Open Options in the updater and make sure the path is the same.
