Default Greyscale showing as redscale

I am having this problem with an image im trying to create for UI Builder. I am converting a JPG to DDS in Photoshop, but for some reason everything that is supposed to be in shades of grey (its a skull & crossbones) shows up in shades of red in UI Builder. Maybe I'm doing it wrong in Photoshop, I dunno. Attaching the DDS format and the JPG format, as well as the screenshot within UI Builder

Please help!!

Either the red is just a result of having the selection region turned on (click the dotted box button lower right corner to turn it off) or you've got the Backgroundcolor set to #FF0000.

The selection region had no effect, it stayed red.
I don't think the background color would apply. The screenshot I took in UI Builder was the SourceRect of the ImageFrame, which I believe shows how UI Builder actually see's the image.

Is it possible that I have my alpha channel messed up?

UIBuilder adds a red frame/color overlay to the cuurently selected object, even in the SourceRect selection window. Make sure that the red selection box oerlaying your image isn't the red-scale you're seeing. (At a glance I thought I saw the frame of UIBuilder's selection box, so I'm thinking that's what you're seeing.)

Well, I checked the DDS through WTV to see if maybe I saved it funky, but it looks fine there. For some reason it just doesnt show up right in UI Builder. The origional redskull screenshot was done with the SourseRect selection grid at the size of 1 px ... I turned it off and on as Zonx had suggested and it had no impact on the display. I didn't bother to try background color because I had not applied it to anything in the UI yet.
I can chek that again, but .... I duuunnnooo.

Here is a screenshot of how my deathscreen looks, redscale included. Notice that it is not an active window, so that is not the cause. Background color is #000000 (ie black) and changing that to red, blue , white, green, etc, had no effect on the image. It stayed in that cheezy redscale no matter what i did.

Help!

D

EDIT: Bah, I figured it out. I was saving it as 16-bit ARGB (4:4:4:4). I converted it to DXT3 and it shows up fine now.

I'm such a n00b!

Ok if foreground and background color are not red, do the following:

- Open the greyscale source image in your image editor.
- Convert it to RGB
- Resave

Could very well be that UIBuilder isn't reading the file type you used as greyscale, so its using the first channel for the red of an RGB image.

I think it had to do something with the DDS format I saved in. I was in 4:4:4:4 (ARGB) and it was showing up funky, but when i saved to DXT3 it showed up fine.
I was unclear when I said greyscale. It was saved in an RGB format, I just meant that it didnt use any "colors"
Whatever the problem was (saving format?) it's fixed now, I think.
Thanks guys

D
