DDS image editor

Anyone know a shareware/freeware app that will edit DDS images (even a lame one lol) on it's own? I not always at a machine that has photoshop and haven't found a solution to this problem yet.

Some tools linked here to convert between DDS and BMP so you can edit with MS Paint. (Doesn't save Alpha channels though.)

Gimp is the only free image editor I know if that's worth its salt, but I don't if it supports DDS.

You can also look for free 30-day trials of Paint Shop Pro, Photoshop, etc.

I know Microsoft has some tools in their DirectX 9.0c SDK (Software Developer Kit), but it's a heafty download at 222MB.

NVIDIA has some graphics tools on their site thate are free. I have not test them yet

The "tools" on the nVidia site are plug-ins for the $50+ programs.

I started using a version of GIMP once my PS trial ran out. there is no .dds plug in for it but you can find converters that make .tga's into .dds's. both programs are free just search google for the programs

This submission is a graphics tool that generates DDS files (texture
format) in batch from a collection of popular file formats such as
BMP, PNG, PSD > and TGA. For this version, I selected nVidia's nvDXT
to produce them so the files produced by it are of the same quality
as they would be with > nVidia's DDS plugin for Photoshop.

The installation program will create shortcuts and add an entry into
the "Add/Remove programs" dialog box.
