Default Possible additional POI functionality?

I'm not sure if this would even be used, but one of my guildmates suggested it, so I thought I'd get it up for discussion.

What if I want to add a POI to my own map view, and not sumbit it? Maybe it is something that other people don't care about...

Would it really be used? Would it require the user to add a POI XML file to a side directory, and the map code would have to additively scan both the auto-updated file and the user created?

Just some grist for the mill.

If you wanted to add a personal POI, you would have to add it to the existing XML file for that zone on your computer, and re-add it every time you ran the updater (as it would detect a difference and overwrite the one on your computer).

Default personal POIs

Right, and that's exactly what I wouldn't want to have to do.

The default UI is autoupdated every time I run EQ2, and yet we can have our own versions of UI files in a separate directory that doesn't get stepped on. Something like that is what I'm talking about.

Okay, here's what you can do:

Install the autoupdater to the DEFAULT UI folder and run it from there.

Only place CUSTOM eq2map files in your customUI/eq2map folder.

The map window will check your custom folder first, and go to the default folder for anything it doesn't find there.

The autoupdater won't even be aware of the custom folder, so your custom files won't be altered, just like the game's own patcher.

The downside is the same: If any updates are added, you'll have to either get by without them or re-edit the file, just like we modders have to do when SOE updates the UI.

Added downside: The patcher will re-download the default eq2ui_mainhud_map.xml when you patch, but that doesn't really matter; the eq2map subfolder will remain intact.

Pretty sure this isn't going to work.

What I'm talking about is being able to add an XML file to my system somewhere and have the POIs defined inside it picked up and combined with the POIs in the XML files downloaded by updater and displayed in map window.

In short: Not possible.

DO NOT LOOK FORWARD TO IT, but this has a very very slight chance of being CONSIDERED in the future. <----Very slim odds if you cant tell.
