pretty sure toms hardware did such a test. (the fx 57 vs the dual core 4800). The fx 57 won in gaming the 4800 in tasking.
I use a dual core, and I find in a lot of games, in order to overcome issues, I have to use only one core. So it hurts the performance of the dual core chip.
