Sounds like an issue with the hardware cursor. I'd check graphics drivers. When in doubt, update to the latest released version by ATI/NVidia, depending on which of the two you run, of course

NVidia is currently at 78.01, and ATI is at 5.8 .
If that doesn't help, you can always engage EQII support.
