What original game? The background was made by perdiction witch has since retired and 2 or 3 people has picked up the basic layout and carried it on.
As far as it not working for you, You may want to leave a little bit mroe info such as; Are you following the install docs? Are you using your own INI or the suplied one? Are you ediiting you own eq2.ini or using the suplied one? What res are you using?
For the maps have you checked the ask to over write eq2ui_mainhud_maps.xml check box in the options? My guess is you didn't and you over wrote it couse it to dork it up.
