a few things. Ill post it here so other people can see it too 
1. Try to keep the shadows low profile. So it still looks like a map on a parchment. I try to keep spread/size (drop shadow properties) lower than 25 each
2. Textures. an awesome eye candy tool. Check out some of the maps i made recently. Select the area, color it in, and then texture it. Layers does wonders here.
3. Shrink the zone area a bit. We want to see some parchment around the sides so it looks good  remember, loooots of people see these, we'd like for it to look like it belongs...and for standardizing purposes

i make the skeleton 436 width (map parchment size)
if i make is smaller would be wrone right?
the people will be out of the map...
i cant add anything to this one becuase i did not went there he did :P
