Random Drops From EQ2 - Possibly eq2 maps
For about 3 months (not sure why now) I have been getting dropped from eq2 either with just a black screen and restart of my system, back to the desktop with an explorer error, or BSOD with a STOP type error - frequently never the same one. I was in contact with SOE Support for at least 2 1/2 months and finally resorted to reformatting my computer. With the auto updater version installed I found I still got randomly booted. Uninstalled EQ2 Interface and all the Maps still work (odd?) but with 1 day test have not crashed. Further days of testing will follow. Any help on why eq2 maps would cause eq2 to crash to the desktop would be helpful. 2 other family members use eq2 interface without a hitch.

More likely its a driver or a memory / overheat problem :(

I had a similar issue a while back that seemed to be resolved by adding a couple more fans to my box. |
No help there
Ive already exhausted those issues, comp is not overheating, have tried about 3 different vid drivers, and have run Memtest for 10 hours straight without any ram issues. This is the only game that ever crashes on me. I can play much more intense graphical games such as Doom 3 and Oblivion just fine without any hint of slowdown or crash.

Two days of no answers...
Upon further testing I have logged more then 2 days of time without random drops since uninstalling eq2 maps. However POI's are still loading with my map. Of course I wont get any more updates, but at least I have solved the problem of getting dropped. I hope EQ2 Interface can remedy this problem, although it appears I am the only one suffering from it.

Installing or uninstalling the EQ2MAP updater is entirely irrelevant to the stability of the game. Good that your problem appears solved, but the updater was not the cause. ;)

well then explain why under a fresh install of windows only having eq2 and map updater installed does my computer crash, but when i deleted eq maps i get no crashes? Nobody else can solve my problem, but i feel it is definitely linked.

Ok, let me take my previous statement back a bit. I think the new versions of the updater install .NET runtime if you don't have it. But that's the only thing that's changed about your computing environment. The 1.06 updater does not even do that. It's just a collection of inert bits sitting on your drive (assuming you don't run it while you play the game).
