Esc = start menu?

Suddenly, if I hit the Esc key with nothing targeted, the EQII start menu pops up. I don't have this set to the Esc key through the options menu, so I'm guessing it's UI-related.

Is there any way to disable this?

Thanks, and thanks again for this UI! :)

gm9 11-21-2007 01:21 PM

That's not ProfitUI related (the start menu is not even modified in ProfitUI). I don't know if that's a game bug, haven't seen this myself yet.

Othesus 11-21-2007 01:55 PM

Hehe, I haven't seen this before, but it looks like it's official.

this is annoying, any way to disable it?

FloridaFringe 11-21-2007 02:51 PM

Not really sure since I don't see any xml changes in the Default UI directory. I'm wondering if this is a server-side change and what exactly would constitute "nothing else for it to do" as I haven't had this happen to me under any circumstances, yet.

They are apparently trying to make the UIs consistent from game to game (and copying WoW while they are at it). Vanguard has always done that. They recently made some changes in Vanguard specifically to make it more like EQ2, so I guess it goes both ways.

Othesus 11-21-2007 03:49 PM

Hehe, it looks like they added a little bug with this change also so I just /bugged it.

This was actually an option added in LU #19.

This command appears to be reversed.

/escape_opens_gamemenu true
Makes ESC not open the startmenu

/escape_opens_gamemenu false
Makes ESC open the startmenu

You can also put this command into your eq2.ini file.

gm9 11-21-2007 04:03 PM

Othesus, you are the master of LU notes links. :)

At least on Runnyeye, which does not have the patch yet, the command is different and not bugged:

/escape_opens_start_menu false

to disable this. So if it's different on US servers they changed it with the latest patch.

Edit: Checked this on Nektulos server. The command is as I posted, but you are right the bug is there.

Othesus 11-21-2007 04:08 PM

Yes, I think they reversed the default and somehow reversed the command too. Either way, they should probably put an option to enable and disable this in the Options - Controls window.

gm9 11-21-2007 04:11 PM

I made a bug report as well to be sure, but of course they'll still give us in Europe the faulty patch before they fix it. :)

So for everybody, to turn it off while it's broken the command is

/escape_opens_start_menu true

FloridaFringe 11-21-2007 06:16 PM

Would the fact that I already had the Menu mapped to a key be the reason that this Esc change hasn't effected me?

Moved thread to the UI User Discussion area since this is an offical change by SOE... http://www.eq2interface.com/forums/s...ead.php?t=9797

true wouldnt work for me in game, I had to use this:

/escape_opens_start_menu 1

Options -> Controls -> Window Keys -> Game Menu = Escape

No more menu.

Hoodini 11-22-2007 12:53 AM

Ive read posts about placing the following code into the EQ2.ini file...Ive tried both lines of code, doesn't fix the problem. My question would be, does it matter which line it appears on in the EQ2.ini file?? Thanks for your help.

/escape_opens_start_menu true

/escape_opens_start_menu 1

/escape_opens_start_menu 1

It's easier to just disable it in the options.

Oh that's interesting, I never knew that there might be differences in the parameter format between servers. What server is that on please? If there are really differences I will have to account for that while modding...

/escape_opens_start_menu 1

If you enter any command into eq2.ini the / slash needs to go.

Hah, good one. :)

Spontz 11-22-2007 03:36 PM

Thank you very much for clearing that up! :)

I had missed the patch note explaining it, and assumed it must have come with the UI. Sorry about the confusion. :)

Othesus 12-13-2007 12:19 AM

Just as a footnote, it looks like that command doesn't exist and the new command is

/cl_escape_opens_main_menu true
/cl_escape_opens_main_menu false

1 and 0 also works for true and false.

gm9 12-13-2007 04:50 AM

Thanks Othesus.
