Tried everything - still cant get it to work!!

Have tried going back to version 1.06 , the one from a few days ago and now the newest one... I have uninstalled and then deleted everything associated with EQ2 maps ... still get this error. Eq2 maps WILL open and download , but it downloads into EQ2 map file. I go into options and cant get it to change UI. Then everytime i open the updater , it reinstalls everything. Here is the error ..

There has to be some kind of security setting on your end that has changed, that prevents the program to create a config file.

As 1.0.6 don't work it can't be a new bug :(

Ill have a look to see if i can get more info to solve this :)

I'm having the exact same issue on Vista 32. I've tried running the installer in XP SP2 compatibility mode and as administrator to no avail although I have read that the /program files/ directory under Vista is treated with further enhanced security. I will try installing the updater into another folder and see if I have any better luck.

No such luck. I did a clean install of EQ2Maps into the c:\games\EQ2MAP Updater\ directory and set compatibility mode to XP SP2 and Run as Administrator then fired up the updater. Right at launch, the updator barfed out the following:

Unknown Error: EQ2MAP_Updater
at EQ2MAPUpdater.GlobalVariables.ReadConfigValues()
at EQ2MAPUpdater.MainWindow.FormMain_Load(Object sender, EventArgs e)
at System.Windows.Forms.Form.OnLoad(EventArgs e)
at System.Windows.Forms.Form.OnCreateControl()

at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WndProc(Message& m)
at System.Windows.Forms.ScrollableControl.WndProc(Message& m)
at System.Windows.Forms.ContainerControl.WndProc(Message& m)
at System.Windows.Forms.Form.WmShowWindow(Message& m)
at System.Windows.Forms.Form.WndProc(Message& m)
at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.OnMessage(Message& m)
at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.WndProc(Message& m)
at System.Windows.Forms.NativeWindow.Callback(IntPtr hWnd, Int32 msg, IntPtr wparam, IntPtr lparam)Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

I'm not sure this is hardware related (as I get the feeling it is related to Vista's unique security requirements) but I will post my system specs anyway just in case they can be of use.

As stated previously, I'm running Vista Ultimate 32bit OS with all current Microsoft patches in place. Nvidia drivers are at version 163.69.

System hardware specs include; q6600 quad G0 stepping CPU (overclocked to 3.51ghz), XFX 8800 GTS 320mb XXX Edition video card, 4 GB of Crucial Ballistix PC8500 DDR2 (running 1:1 linked ratio at 780mhz with 3-3-3-10 2T timings), Antec True Power Quatro 850watt power supply, and twin Seagate 250gig SATA-II hard drives in Raid 0. And yes, I have stability tested my overclock using OCCT and Folding@Home (running all 4 cores at 100% for 24 hours each).

I have a fix for this coming up, i hope tomorrow.
Its not realy a fix but you will get a error message that is correct :)
The error you see is a result of a IO falure :( but you can't see what's cause it.

Interesting.. Is it an IO failure that can be dealt with by the user? In other words, is your fix just to handle better error reporting or will it give us end users enough info to allow us to resolve the issue ourselves?

If you would like me to test, PM me what the actual IO error is and any instructions you want me to follow and I'll see if I can work around the issue.
