Class targetting mods

With the Grateful Dead, Bob Marley, etc. targetting mods I thought it might be possible and interesting to have some that are class specific. ie. the symbol for your class appears under their feet, tinted the appropriate color.

If anyone ever feels like doing this sort of mod I'd love to see them, particularly for my Bruiser. ;-)

It would be easy enough to do, but the real problem is that the class icons are actually pretty small -- about the size of a forum avatar. They'd have to be blown up quite a bit to "fit" as a target ring, and there would be a pixelation problem.

They could be smoothed out a bit, but I'm not sure it would be enough for them to make an attractive target ring. I'll take a crack at it and let you know how it goes.

Seagoat, if you want you can use the ProfitUI background images for the persona window which you can download here. They are the class images, are big enough (quality should be ok) and the added advantage is that they already have alpha channels set up so you get the icon without the background, which should have you putting out those target rings in no time. ;)

Enjoy. :D

Thanks! :) I think I've got a solution using PSP filters, though...so far, it's giving them a sharper "artsy" look that seems to be turning out quite nicely!

I'll share some sample images when I have them, then probably release the rings all in one zip. :)

Ok, here's an example of what I've got so far...this is the Swashbuckler ring.

I decided to go with a simple patterned ring for the con / implied portion. I repeated an edge from the class icon (in this case, the feathers atop the hat) in a circular pattern, then shrunk and mirrored it for the inside edge of the ring. This keeps the ring from being too plain while incorporating an aspect of the class icon.

Speaking of mirroring, you'll notice that the original images are backward; the client actually flips the ring graphics around in-game, so in order for them to look right when you're playing, they have to be reversed when the files are created. :)

I've finished graphics for all 24 classes, but I want to test them in-game before submitting them for download. Meanwhile, here are more example images!

Was this the sort of thing you were looking for, Vanyari?

Apologies! I complete forgot to check back with this thread, thanks for sending the reminder PM Seagoat!

Yes! That's exactly what I was thinking of. Thanks very much for taking it on and I'll look forward to seeing them posted for download. Thanks again!

No problem. :) They were fun to make, and I'm pleased that they turned out so well -- and that they were what you were looking for. I'll post them for download sometime today!

what a great idea... wish there was some kind of mechanism that would select the appropiate ring depending on one's class... maybe i'll /feedback it

Seagoat 06-30-2007 10:38 PM

Alrighty, I submitted them...just waiting on them to be approved for public consumption. :) Keep an eye out! (No pun intended; I'm about to upload another target ring that's a giant eyeball!)
