Audigy 2 ZS: how do i make it stop sucking?
Out of the box with the cd drivers it sucks and constantly locks up.
With all the updated drivers from creative it sucks and constantly locks up. No blue screen, no error messages, just total lockup (the mouse too), i also cant come out of suspend anymore. Please stop my Audigy 2 from sucking. -insomniac :D |
What IRQ is the sound card using and is anything else using that IRQ? Device Manager >> View >> Resource by type >> Interrupt Request (IRQ)
|
what sound card did you have before?
did you completely uninstall the old card? Does your PC have a Builtin onboard sound card? if so, did you disable it? Try reinstalling DX9, then reinstall your card. Move the card to a different PCI slot. |
Disable the onboard if you have one. I had the same kind of problem.
I believe I also had to change the pci slot. Don'y ask me why that should matter, but someone told me to do it and it did work. good luck |
PCI Slots are assigned IRQ numbers. You move the card to resolve a conflict.

I've been a long time user of the creative sound cards since the ISA days and I ran into simular problems with the PCI cards it is a known issuse with creative cards that they like their own IRQ and get pops, cracks and lockups when sharing. In short they do not play well with others.

Not the IRQs, Onboard sound is disabled. My system was 100% stable before i put the card in and it's 100% stable when i take it out. Thanks for the ideas guys. =) |
If I remember correctly SB cards only like irq's of 5 or 7 or 11, dont ask why but for some reason that sticks in my head. I would try moving it to another pci slot and see.

I hate how Creative has gone downhill with their products and the lack of support of drivers.
I gave up on creative drivers and with with the KXproject, an open source driver set for the SB live and audigy cards. I found it a little complex but after a few mins fiddling with volume settings works really really well. I can actually get DTS pass thru working now :) and has been very very stable set of drivers http://kxproject.lugosoft.com/index.php?skip=1 is the site to the projects homepage Pain I found is nuking all the creative leftovers on the system rest was easy Hope this helps |
and stay away from the pci slot nearest the video card.
