server_name_eq2_uisettings.ini keeps overwriting itself
 

Hi- I just reformated my computer- I had LAFFS-LITE installed working fine (was on 1600x1200 so i had to mess around with it) but it worked fine. Now I see that Perdition_BottomV8 supports 1600x1200 - so i install it... and the files are all scattered.. so I copy the file information again for server_name_eq2_uisettings.ini- go in game windows scattered again... then campout go look in the file and it reset itself to a one line code. I have copied over and over and it just keeps reseting. i am stumped. (of course I have the file named correctly "befallen_cheung_eq2_uisettings.ini) Thanks in advanced

EQ2 is completely closed, correct?

you mean when I change things around? yes- I have logged in and out to many times to count... this even happens when i have eq2.ini going to default... it won't show everything- I just installed the damn game fresh not 2 hours ago.

when point to default or the custom ui... the uilog states this

ok try this
after install (or now if it is installed) but before entering eq2:
1) delete any ini files you need to
2) copy the ini file you want
3) rename it properly
4) enter eq2

that should set you straight. remember if you install the ui then enter eq2, leave eq2, you already have the ini file set up and when you copy it won't let you rename it since the file exists.

I have done that- I even just took the time to totally reinstall EQ2 a second time tonight- still same thing. It seems too that eq2 changed their default ui from yesterday. but everytime I load PERDV8 I have scattered windows and not everything is there... :mad: it's getting frustrating.

Anybody else have any ideas? I am really in a stump for this- as I said before even my default UI is all mixed around.

if eq2 finds an ini there it will use it and modify it when you change it in game. it will not overwrite the old one with a new one unless you get in there. now are you using /loadui? you need to set the eq2.ini file too. if you need support for laff's work please take this to the right thread in the complete set release area =) also screen shots and the ini files would help. (though, he can't work with 1600 by 1200 hehe)

Well the reason I didn't post this in laffs thread is becuase it seems to be doing it to a couple UI's, and only effecting server_name_eq2_uisettings.ini- also I did correctly place eq2.ini and server_name_eq2_uisettings.ini in the right places with the right information- when in game I do not move a thing- it just pops up randomly. eq2.ini stays intact but effecting server_name_eq2_uisettings.ini coding constanly changes itself.

I was able to get the default working but I am not sure if SOE changed the default UI sense I havnt used it in about a week-it seems to be missing alot of what I remember the UI having- such as the black bars up top. in default I now have a clock and compass in bottom right corner-xpbar in center(bottom center) hotkeys in bottm left side- its totally different from a week ago before I installed laffs lite... I will take screen shots tonight when I get home from work. Thanks for the input.

Just to check you are just renaming the "charname" file and not trying to open it and edit it are you?

Foe example for this to work for me i would change

Server_Charname_eq2_uisettings.ini

to

runnyeye_wicann_eq2_uisettings.ini

Yes- I have done that multiple times. I have also copied the data from the 1600x1200 to the file I orginally renamed becuase the data gets replaced.

And you are placing the file in the main everquest 2 folder I surpose?

sorry for asking some basic questions but they hadnt been covered and was worth mentioning wasnt insulting your intelligence....

Failing that I realy dont know why it keeps getting replaced it shouldnt unless you move stuff about etc.... all kinnda weird to me :confused:

EQ2 is doing this on one of my computers too. It does it on the newer computer, but not the older computer. I even tried copying the ini file from the old one to the new one - no dice. I am stuck playing EQ2 on my older computer because I don't want to reset my UI every time I log in.

I fixed the issue.. in the main directory.. i deleted eq2_default.ini; eq2_recent.ini; origianl_settings.ini; and befallen_cheung_eq2_uisettings.ini- then I went into the "UI" folder and deleted folder "Default"; loaded the game so it would redownload the file... then I logged out and put the custom server_name_eq2_uisettings.ini in loaded game and OMG it works...

Thanks for all the help guys-I havn't been able to play eq2 sense this and now... I am going to go play, just wanted to let y'all know what I did. Thanks again!

Looks like they got corupted somehow then, Will have to try and remember that one if it happens again to anyone lol
