can different characters use different UIs?

This question may be tiring, but the search filtered out the word "different" so I couldn't find what I was looking for.

I used to use custom UIs a few months ago, but it kept getting frustrating having to update everything or change everything when Sony updated their UIs. Not to mention my wife on her account never was a really big fan of having to use the UIs I was using.

Used to be, I believe all characters had to use the same UI since you had to create an INI file in the EQ directory and that made every character use a particular UI. Is it still like that? Can we get around that?

You can, now that /loadui is fixed. Or enough to give characters seperate UIs, at least. :)

Step 1: Delete the eq2.ini file.
Step 2: Log in with one of your characters.
Step 3: Use /loadui. (Not sure whether you have to use the menu or type out a folder name. May be that either works.)
Step 4: Log out before doing anything that may cause a crash or update your character's settings file (opening options window, etc.).

That character should now be using a custom UI, without the ini file. Characters that don't use /loadui should still use the default.

That's what I understand from reports, at any rate. My account was already cancelled by that point, so if that works you'll have to talk to someone that still plays. :p

Edit: Here's the discussion thread about the last /loadui repair:

No luck :(. It still put it on every character. Any ideas?

Well, nuts.

Only suggestion I've got is for you and your wife to use seperate EQ2 folders. This will allow her to use the default UI or whatever she prefers while you use whatever you like. You'll have to patch twice each time there's an update and whatnot, though.
