** Possible Fix / Work-Around for Chat Box Settings not Saving.

I got it! A 'REAL' Working FIX!!! It is an SoE bugged, I've tested, manipulated, e-mailed, tested some more and BLAMO!!! Fixed!

I had lost my older INI files so I couldn't 'make this work' and thought I was doomed because I didn't really think it was this... cause I thought I had tried it all, missed one thing though.

If you don't have an old 'working' character_uisettings.ini file, I'm attaching my specific 1280x1024 setup which was designed around Zonx's FetishClassic UI (Uploaded today) with the addition of Mook's 3-in-1 Small Hot Bar, Addition POI Icons for the Map and Tonyisl33t's Small Maintained and Spell Effects windows. You can manipulate the chat windows, move 'em around, it WILL save (hehe, hopefully), so you can use this INI and then re-arrange from there with any resolution.

Apparantly the bug is in how SoE is saving the 'new' INI files, which may be a randomized bug per 'account' or possibly for anyone using new saves. It is NOT a 'custom ui' specific error, it's a character_uisettings.ini save error on their end, sent to your end. I found this out by sending my INI to a friend, and only that, and poof, chat boxes went bygone. He sent me back his previous working one, and I went from there and vuala! Fixed!

I hope this works for everyone having this trouble, by gosh I know this drove me nuts for hours on end. Just be sure to change the 'SERVER' to your played server name and 'CHARNAME' to your character's name on the INI file, place into your Main EverQuest II directory (folder) and you're all set. Whoohaa!

Psst... www.keepersoftwilight.com when you get a chance, I'm workin' hard on this site and don't mind constructive, or well, be mean to me criticism. Helps to drive me to make things better overall. If anyone plays on the Befallen server, I play often as Hinton Sureshot, my Ranger and I run a lot of events per week for my guild which anyone and everyone is welcome to join in on, like Hide 'n Seek, Treasure Hunts, Raids, etc... Oops, I'm rambling, go! Go logon and enjoy your chat boxes!!! :-)

Uhhmm. Ok, through all your rambling.. you didn't say "what" exactly or "how" you fixed whatever it is you fixed.

So maybe you could explain. Through all your hype, the only clear thing I got out of that was to goto that link...

I think all he did was replace his ini with his friends (that didnt have the chat box problems) and rearange stuff to his likeing /zone , / camp whatever and that was problem solved...

But he may well have a good point about some char ini files being "bugged" and getting "re bugged" as per all the problems some people seem to be having with my addons mod for BottomV8.....

The only thing I noticed after all that was the advertisement, also.

Nice you found the trick which SOE can't figure damn.

...though like other said, I would like to know how to fix my ini with which I'm having nightmares.

Thanks for doing this.
Is this to fiix the problem if the 2nd chat window will disappear from your UI when relogging?

bneta86 03-29-2005 04:32 PM

This is 100% correct. I had saved my old UI files on my comp and ended up reinstalling EQ2.

After the install I decided I would redo all my UI stuff from scratch to make it just the way I wanted it.

However I couldnt save any of my chat windows on log outs.

However - upon switching back to my old severname_charname_ ini file I could reset everything up - and all the chat window settings saved - with the exception of my custom chat channels going to mult. windows.(a small problem compared to the big one)

So yes...just use this UI as the base - restore all the default settings and set it up as you chose and it will fix the problem.

The chat bug is in the .ini file which is just gibberish on our end -- thanks a lot SOE for not fixing something that is a vital part of the game and moving on to adding mob pathing fixes and new content like mailboxes.

I am sure we would all like to log in to the same UI everytime more than having a mailbox...

So maybe that's why I never have any trouble with my UI? Cause I"ve been using the same INI file since day 3 of EQ2. ;)

Oh, yes, what I did to 'fix' the problem was use an old INI file. I didn't have my own, because when I installed a custom UI once I removed all mine to get a 'fresh start' on my layout, but all I really had to do was use the in-game options and choose Reset for the Game Windows Layout and Opacities. Usin' the INI I attached, you should be able to do the same, and have the chat boxes you want.
