Broken Mods - Dev/Admin Request
With all the changes sony has made over the last month to the UI, a lot of mods are now borked.
I know its not possible to have someone check every mod every patch to see if its still working and many of us do one of three things when a mod doesn't work. We 1) Fix it ourselves for our own version, or 2) we delete the mod, or 3) we come and find a new mod that is fixed post patch. My request lies around #3. I am almost afraid to download any mods from the download section that have been updated or created before 3/24/2005. So here is the thought. Perhaps we could have a Field on each mod that says tested good as of: DATE. So that way downloaders would know that the mod has been tested with the last patch before the test date. |
on eq(1)interface there's a mod graveyard/stuff that needs to be updated area, one here would be nice :p

I'll have to think on how this could work so people that dont know how to install mods correctly dont report files as broken.
Could only allow other interface authors to report broken mods. Then it would be put on a list, a warning on the fileinfo page and an email will be sent to the author. After 2 weeks and its still not updated it will be deleted if not popular (800+ downloads = popular) if its popular then we will make sure its possible for people to post patches to the mod. Could have more of an automated process, would not be easy. Could have a script that scans each interface zipfile with a list of the changed xml/dds and mark those interfaces with those changed files as needing an update and again email/pm the author. I'll think of some other options later. |
I can't imagine a program that could check for mod issues... I suppose its possible but it would have to be so specific that it would be very difficult to write, but then again, I suspect someone around here could do it.
Perhaps something as simple as a place where the mod authors can mark Verified as of Date. And all the mod author would have to do is click a check mark and it would update the verified date on the mod. |
It wouldnt check for issues... It would see what files the interface modifiys and if its one of the files I flagged as being changed with a recent patch it will flag that mod as needing an update or need confirmation that it still works. Would be alot of work and I'm sure the php script would use alot of resources with the more files we get.
