Chat Windows Not Saving

Hey everyone. I'm new here.

Whenever I try and set up multiple chat boxes, and get them how I want them, and log off, then log back on when I want to play again, only one chat window shows up. The rest I set up before don't show up, so everytime I play, I have to completely re-do my chat boxes (wow that was a long run-on sentence). It gets rather annoying everytime I want to play. I am using no mod for my chat box skin, and it just started happening a couple days ago. I tried deleting the UI .ini file in the EQ2 directory, but nothing happened.

Any solution to this?

Edeka,

I have been having this very same problem for some weeks now. I have done a clean install of all ui pieces, and done pretty much everything suggested in troubleshooting. Would appreciate any suggestions out there. I have been accused of rudely ignoring peeps cuz my ooc went south.

I had the same issue

I called SOE and they had me Delete 3 Files out of the main directory and that fixed the issue... I wrote down the files but seem to have misplaced the information on my messy desk... Anyone else removed these files?

Anyone figure this one out yet?

Find the three files?

Thank you

Try and remember what it was :D

Yea my Chat windows are not saving either. I hope someone can fix this soon

I just contacted SoE, and the rep told me the Dev's know about it, and working on a fix. Told me no way to fix it right now and to /bug it... Not very helpful...

So if you can please remember what the rep told you, and let us all know which files to delete, would be mucho helpful.

Binton 03-24-2005 12:40 PM

Yes please. I would say 'bump' but I don't even know what the BEEP that means... so, include me on the (on hands and knees begging) please have someone 'bump' you on the head to help you remember what it was that you had to delete.

I've been told by players to delete recent.ini and character inis, and have tried that, but it's not working this time around for me since the 21st patch.

in eq2_recent.ini
i deleted the last line CHAT FONT SIZE=20.
solved the problem beautifully.
if that doesn't work try deleting the eq2_recent.ini file altogether.
if that doesn't work try deleting all <charactername>***.ini files and rebuild your display.
if that doesn't work try uninstalling the game , delete the folders to make sure it's all really gone and then reinstall. (lots of patching so not recommended for dialup users)

At this point some have still had the problem. So it's your call if you want to try the last drastic step of complete reinstallation.

also one temporary work around that helps is to dock all your extra windows as tabs on your main window before you log out. when you come back they will be there and you just have to move them back and reset window settings size and location. You still lose everything if you crash or get booted but it can save some time resetting the windows.

Poofing chat windows

I saw in another thread, which I've not found yet, a fix I wanted to confirm for this problem.

I had a friend email me the file *servername*_*charactername*_eq2_uisettings

and it finally fixed it. :nana:

Well with me it only does it on certain characters. I have deleted the one characters UI settings and still doesnt fix it. So I have no idea.

I posted that fix in a few replies, has worked so far for everyone. I've been able to move the chats around, setup tabs, and save locations easily so far. I'll attach it here for folks to see as well... I would link to my other post, but I seem to be an idiot and not know how to do it.

A fix for this is supposidly coming in live update #6, which was put on test today (patch notes available on the EQ2 forums). Only major change to the UI community is that it will show your group member's location on your maps (may require changes to EQ2Map, but I'll let the coders of that wonderful application state that).

I had a problem also like above.

DL the "good" one to a temp file.
Delete ALL your character UI's
Install the good one for ONE character.
Set it up the way you want it and lock it in place with that char.
Copy that *new* file back to a temp file, rename it for all your other characters, and put it back in your EQ2 Folder.

Then, they will all start up the same way.
