Hotbars changing inadertently

Hope this is the right forum for this question -

If I press CTRL+SHIFT+1 it changes my hotbars just like I'm clicking the spinner. I can also press ALT+SHIFT+1 and it does the same thing on my other hotbar. I can press CTRL+SHIFT or ALT+SHIFT and then the numbers 1 thru 10 and it changes them to whatever number hotbar I pressed.

Is there a way to disable this? I keep inadvertently changing my hotbars around in the middle of a fight.

Go into your options and clear the binds for changing the hotbar banks in the hotbar keys. (Click the already designated keybind first, and then hit the Delete button that shows up after)

Ok, I checked that out in my options and neither the primary or secondary commands are set for Banks 1 - 10. They were both empty so I didn't have any keybinds to delete.

To test, I then tried to map CTRL+SHIFT+1 to another command like auto-attack. I then got a message saying:

That key is currently assigned to:
UI_QUICKBAR_BANK_1_CTRL
Do you want to reuse this key?

So I then searched for that quickbar term in my eq2 directory and it looks like there's a Keyboards folder with these different eq2_keymap_germany or eq2_keymap_united states INI files that has those commands mapped in there. I guess that's overriding the options somehow and I just gotta figure out which one it's using or how to disable it.

Thanks for your help, you pointed me in the right direction. And I don't guess you know how to change those keyboard INI files do you?

You don't change the ini files, you just change it in game. They're in the options window > Controls > Hotbar Keys at the very bottom, labeled "Bank 1" and such. Delete the keybinds there.

I actually think I may have had the same problem, where the game didn't want to unbind those from in-game.

But I use a full-on custom route of setting up my keybinds. Create the files that don't exist (use notepad, and set proper extensions where needed)

(1. in-game) Keyboards/eq2_keymap_custom.ini:
Set your keys up in-game and then save them with /save_keymaps eq2_keymap_custom.ini

Now log out and close the game

(2. edit) eq2_recent.ini:
Code:

cl_configuration_file EQ2-CustomMode.cfg
(3. file create) Layouts/EQ2-CustomMode.cfg:
Code:

name=Custom
options=
uisettings=
colors=
keymaps=eq2_keymap_custom.ini

This will make your keyboard layout show up in the in-game options menu dropdown, too.
With this route you can be sure that your options will save, and you can setup custom colors.

BUT BE AWARE OF WHEN SONY ADDS NEW KEYS, because they will be blank by default when they do ;)
(example: flying mounts control keys, or inventory+persona window merged into character window. Just need to edit keys in options and re-save Step 1)

Thank you so much for you time! I'm going to try this and let you know the results, though I'm sure it will work.

Question though - what do you mean by them "adding new keys"? Is this something they do frequently? And do I need to keep updating my custom command file?

Drumstix42 07-02-2011 01:58 PM

Umm, an example would be when they added flying mounts, I had to go into my controls and find the keybinds for going up and down and just set them (just in the options window). And then re do the /save_keybinds eq2_keymap_custom.ini

It's easy enough to do, and only takes a second, but ya just gotta be aware of when they add stuff like that.

Hey, sorry I'm just now getting back to ya, but I finally did your steps and it worked perfectly. So thanks very much for telling me how to do that.

I also filed a /petition that the keymaps file is overriding in the ingame options. I had a GM try it and was able to reproduce the error. And they finally replied with this:

I played around with it for a while, seeing if I could find any way possible to get these settings to stick and I wasn't able to. What I did do though is fill out a report on this to our Dev Team. Since you can adjust the Shift quickbar bank key bindings in the options menu, it seems like you ought to be able to do the same with the Alt & Ctrl quickbar bank keys. So I sent a report over to the dev team about this inconsistency and they'll be able to review it from their end and hopefully get this resolved. I know this doesn't provide an immediate fix for the problem, and that it is frustrating, so I definitely appreciate the patience you've shown on this.

Good to hear. I'll believe it when I see it :D
