Local Macros???

Howdy All

Just thought I'd pose a question for some of EQ2's best & brightest brains to cogitate about.

I use lots of ingame macros. I was messing around and did a /savehotkey command...tinkered about a bit... then decided I did not like a macro i had made.
I deleted it. I did sorted thru my bank and did other assorted mundane things...and a bit later screwed something up.

So i did the /loadhotkey command.

Lo and behold the deleted macro was back but had a "local macro" small yellow tag on it. When I opened up my macro window, it was not listed there, so basically I got a "free" macro. I guess by local it is stored on my computer instead of the server.

Anyway, my question is...

Is there a way to create "local macros", I presume by editing/creating a file? without having to go thru the /savehotkey /loadhotkey ordeal

You can use /dofilecommand and use a local file to execute commands, if that's what you are referring to?

Not sure why you'd call it an ordeal but you could just create macros in a saved hotkey file and then load them. It's still easier and more flexible to store the macros out side of that file and load them the way Drums suggested.

If you care... the red underlined numbers in your screenshot are likely icon ID codes, an unknown number because it's always '2', and the number of lines after the current line that the macro contains.

Though it's probably not a big deal for many, a couple of practical (or at least interesting) aspects of this is it would allow macros with icons that might not be directly available to the class using it, and it would also allow one to share common macros among all characters. I might have to play with tweaking the icon id, see if HO icons are achievable for macros this way :)

Yes, you can use this method to edit the macro Icons out of the game, but this has been something discussed in the past.

I know it's not something easily found on the boards though.
