What's the Difference between Vitality "Gems"?

I haven't had a chance really to play since they added the vitality in so i dont know what the difference is, however im woking on a an exp bar for my mod and i have no idea what the different vitality gems mean. If someone could just give me a quick description i would REALLY appreciate it! Thanks in advance. here were the 3 different ones:
1. GemGlow
2. Gem
3. EmptyGem

GemGlow and Gem are seperate images that are visible when you have vitality. They probably could have been merged, but alpha channels are a pain. Keeping them seperate then having one be semitransparent through XML is so much easier. :p

EmptyGem is the background image, kind of like the background for gauges in the Player and Target windows.

If this is why SOE broke it up into two images, those SOE UI people are dumb. Transparency doesn't get any simpler than an alpha channel. I know I argued this to death in another thread, but being able to define percent-transparency on a per pixel basis is about as easy and precise as it gets.

I'm redoing the graphics and ditching the wasteful glow image if this was the only reason there's 2 images.
