Shader 3.0

I got this from the Official Forums, filmed and posted by ke'la.

Part 1 - Slideshow

Part 2 - Questions and answers

I'm sure Dolby has pictures or probably a more high quality video, but even with those videos it looks amazing.

Nice, that sure breathes some new life into the somewhat dated graphics.

I just can't believe we use shader 1.0

I'll see if we can get some of the pics they used in the powerpoint. That was saturday and my camera was broken by then (dropped it at the friday night party). I didnt bring my video camera this time since this is more of a fun trip than a work trip. I had a bunch of guildies to entertain too. :)

I was at that panel and I must say shader 3.0 really brought a lot of new life to the game. I can't wait to see it in live motion instead of just pictures. I hope to do some fraps video with a compare between the two when they have shader 3.0 on test.

have they happened to mention what sort of increase to Recommended Requirments shader 3.0 will add? What sort of performance impact will we see?
If does look awesome though

I believe that in the video Ryan/Imago-Quem said that you can set it to higher or lower settings. The higher settings do not decrease performance at all..so there will be no difference between 1.0 and 3.0 performance wise, but the lower settings increase performance if you want to set it to them.

Pretty much any average video card uses Shader 3.0. All DX9 cards can use it and I believe he said that you can choose if you want 1.0 instead of 3.0 so it's not required.

Dolby 06-30-2009 03:58 PM

Yes you can always go back to shader 1.0 if your video card can't handle the load but those that have a decent video card should see a noticable improvement in fps/performance with shader 3.0 since the video card will be actually used more instead of piling all the graphics work on the CPU like it does now.

Pretty amazing. I think my favorite transition was at 5:30 with the mushrooms. Just a huge difference.

I was at that panel, but I think my camera was dead by then unfortunately. I'll check when I go through the tape (yeah, its old it uses the small casettes) this friday/weekend.

Where you the guy with the video camera where the baby was messing with your tripod? If so I was sitting a few rows behind ya.

Ryan posted some pics in the Shader 3 thread on the official forums.

They look real nice.

Thanks for the link. They are cheating though by placing a lightsource (torch on character I suppose) there for the 3.0 pics which wasn't there for the 1.0 pic. For example, that mottled plastic look you already get today when it rains (and I never liked it, it's too shiny):

Nah, I was in the front of the left row. I only took a carry-on so I couldn't bring a tripod. Next year (assuming I go) a tripod is definately something I need to bring... more camera batteries & tapes as well.

My buds and I will go next year, if it is indeed Las Vegas again. Vegas is only a couple hours from my home.
