Issue with having 3rd chat window
 

Hi all,

This isn't an issue with any mod, but with the EQ2 UI itself & I was wondering if anyone else might have experienced it. I have been running the game with 2 chatboxes, one for chat & one for spells/combat/etc. Last night I decided to separate out my status text into a 3rd window. I created the window, played a bit, went into merchant mode for the night & of course got disconnected for the daily patch. Upon logging back in, my 3rd window was gone & status text was back to displaying in my 2nd chat window. Also, I had shortened the width of the 2nd window when I made the 3rd, but it was back to its previous width upon login. Again, I created the 3rd window, and upon camping out & coming back it was gone again. I tried adding money split & con messages to display in the 3rd window also to see if that would help it stick, but it didn't. I would really like to not have to reset this window every time I log on a character. If anyone has any advice, I'd sure appreciate it.

If you don’t properly log out after you make changes to your UI it wont save the changes. Just like in windows if you move your desktop icons around and then Crash out of windows it doesn’t save those icon positions. Also upon patches things could be reset too.

I have 3 chat windows atm and it works just fine. I've even added a forth for a couple days and then went back.

Well, I thought of that so upon logging in I re-added the third window & camped out properly, then came back, and poof, no 3rd window. I also tried overwriting my main's UI file with one of my alts (which I had saved as a copy of my main's from this morning after the patch & after I had re-added the 3rd window). Again, no 3rd window. I know its not life or death having to reconfigure the chat window all the time, but it is an unnecessary hassle I'd rather not deal with.

I just have 2 windows and the 2nd is always missing every time I log out and back in. Happens in all my toons. Also, some of the bags in my bank don't save their position and reset back to where I had them lst week - about the same time this chat window problem cropped up.

I have 4 chat windows open all the time. My third window has 3 tabs, and I was having this problem with that third tab for a few sessions. Seems everytime it would revert to Tab 14. My windows are Battle, Group (has say, yell, emotes, and some other misc stuff too), Guild/Ooc/Shout, then a private channel window. My shout tab would not save for many logouts and logins. Finally something saved it, and I have not had any issue since. Seems flakey to me.

I've had the game open a chat window "Tab 7" on more than 1 toon, on more than 1 occasion since the chat patch.

Window/Chat saves have always been buggy. It is possible to have your settings stuck so they don't update poperly.

Yeah, I even tried the suggested "delete eq2_recent.ini & character UI file & start all over" fix today. That left me with only one chat box instead of 2! It seems that the patch introducing tabbed chat windows also introduced a bug that prevents additional chat boxes set up after the patch from being saved, at least as far as I can see. Hope they address this soon.

Instead of erasing all of your eq2_recent.ini and losing a lot of your settings, just delete the line of text that says "chat_fontsize xx" then load up the game, set up your chat windows, reset your fontsize if you don't like the default (I use 12) and it will save the settings like it should. Works every time for me.

Have you tried zoning, then logging?

Lancer, thanks that worked for my chat windows. My bank bags are still not saving position, though. Any thoughts on that one?

I loaded up the eq2_recent.ini and I don't have that line in there anywhere. I'm having a problem with it not saving which windows have the Crafting channel on. Any ideas?

I was having this issue as well ..

I deleted the config files for the character and re-setup all the options ... so far my three chat windows are working fine now.
