Can someone explain the Tabbed Chat Windows?
Quote:
Can someone explain how to use these correctly, my thoughts were I could put NPC text on one tab, BattleSpam on another tab, and Spell Info on yet another tab. Ok all how do I do this and is it going to work???? |
Pre-Patch:
I had 2 windows, one was chat stuff, tells, guild, good stuff. Other one as battlespam, hits, melle, magic, and NPC tells. After-Patch: I dragged my battle spam into the normal chat. "yay cool, neat" battled once, noticed a tab text turns yellow when new text appears. Didn't really want tabs in that instance, dragged battle spam back to where it was. It still had the same size, and filter settigns. I was happy, and impressed. End of story. No problems here  |
Okies Giving it a try thanks for the help.

Most people I talked to notice that if they switched back and forth between tabs text within the tabs, sorta dissappeared... Don't know why this was happening.
I created new tabs the way they explained it. I took one of my chat windows and dragged it into another, then I adjusted my two tabs to different settings. Eventually I undid the tab and went back to my old system of having chat windows that aren't being used to fade out. I wish it would automatically switch to the tab where the talking is happening. |
I've also had problems with these new tab chats. As much as I like the idea and want to use it. When I creat a new tab chat and try to filter certain things into it, I go back to another tab and come back to the one I was on and it has now reset back to all the stuff i tried to take out of it. This has happened when filtering in tab mode and also when trying to filter the window itself then moving it onto another chat to add that window to a tab mode.

Maybe a fix is open a new chat window, set the filters, then drag it into another. Maybe it's a tab issue, and not a chat issue.
|
I have tried that as well, what I find is after a tabbed window decides to clear itself and you look back in the chat settings it has copied all the filters from the other tabs into its own  , and that seems to happen if you use existing windows or make new ones.... well for me it does anyway its a real pain as I have to keep setting the filters up maybe 4 times a session :(

I had an issue with my tabs resetting when I log same problem I had with the old chat windows so tried the same fixed that worked for it.
Deleted recentui.ini and started over have had no problems since. this is a pain and inconvience but I'll live. |
was happy! finally, my chat filters and colors stayed put when i logged, after ages of them resetting several times a day. All was right in the universe!
And then... Sony apparently decided that the peace and happiness i felt when i logged on should be replaced again with frustration and hostility, and they went "live" with tabbed windows. at first, i was optimistic, even thinking " :nana: i can get rid of a few windows, will clean up my screen and all will be good". sadly, this optimism lasted only a few minutes when i made my first tab. looked nice, set my filters for it, clicked okay and poof, same old crap text from my main chat window that i was trying to weed out in the first place. i opened the chat filter again, and all my lovely little check marks had procreated. i unchecked everything, clicked okay and POOF, same doo doo, same window, different moment. finally gave up, closed that tab and figured i was just fine with my 5 (yes, i know, but really each has a purpose) windows since i started playing, i'll be fine with em now. oh but alas, now...now slowly but surely, through out the nite, text starts jumping into different windows, randomly and then progressively, important text starts to disappear completely while being replaced by "you start fighting...you stop fighting" and by the end of my play time, i've got 4 windows with pretty much nothing but that text and can't find anything like what i'm harvesting, how much damage my poison is doing and even camping message" I've tried opening chat options, clearing the checks and reinputting my filters, but it seems to reset the second i hit okay. I've tried deleting (recent, EQ2, UI, you name it, short of completely uninstalling the game and restarting) and starting over, works great until the first time i start melee'g and i get "you start fighting" in all but one of my windows. this is beyond an inconvenience, i seriously can't function properly in game because i'm constantly losing something. anyone have any ideas? i'm desperate |
I have tried it and still have them enabled but they are very buggy in my opinion. For example in one window I have 5 tabs and things end up disappearing from the other tabs and all appear again in the 1st tab. Drives me nuts. Had everything setup to go into different tabs and bam.. All messed up. Same thing happens on my other chat window.
Other issue I see all the time is if I use the Right Arrow to go to a tab I can't see, I lose my first tab. Have to resize the window to get it back. But the text disappearing has to be the biggest pain in the chat window. |
I did manage to fix mine for somthing like 4 sessions... then "poof" ..... set them back up again and the chat clearing problem has came back AGAIN !... but filters seem to stay put... Somthing worth noteing maybe is when I camp on one char and log onto a different one all the old chat txt from the last char is still displayed in the windows on the char I just logged in even guild chat and this char is not in a guild unlike the last one I logged in (does that make sense?)
Anyways got me to thinking oks if that is happening its holding old infomation and must be using it for all my chars... So what I have now started to do is rename all my windows to match on all my chars with the same filters Eg: window name "Tells" just has player tell checked and npc tell checked also..... and so on with all 5 of my different windows.... seem's to be working I logged in a char I dont play much lastnight and changed that last set... so will see if that cures it properly... Like I said elesewhere I did have it fixed but it's back to haunt me again lol Somthing else worth mentioning is even the default chat window has the same problems as the custom ones some clear the filters only some just clear the text at random and some decide to do what Sleepywillow said. |
sony knows their chat windows suck right?
Last night I wasn't even using tabbed chat, bumped up to 1600x1200 resolution and BAM!!! all my chat colors were reset.... |
"chat colors reset"
Any time you open the options window then click cancel (or press escape) it resets chat colors (well, all UI text colors), I'd bet this is what happened to you. Quib |
