Vista/ProfitUI/EQ2Maps I've not a clue
 

Can't seem to get EQ2maps to download and work right, I have deleted the profit UI and unistalled EQ2Maps and started from scratch several times but the same problem occurs, can any body advise on following:

1. Installed profit and updated and all works fine just no decent maps

2. Download and run EQ2Maps updater, checked the path and EQ2 runs from "C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest II\EQ2.exe" which is correct with profit installed in "C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest II\UI\ProfitUI

3. Updater goes through the motions and downloads close to 40Mb of files and puts them in to profitui as directed by UIDirectory drop down menu close to the bottom of the options screen

4. When I load EQ2 either by the launch game button or via standard shortcut, EQ2 loads without new maps but also with a semi broken profit UI, where the skin appears to be the same but most of the windows are default versions and not those as per profitreborn

5. No matter how many times I run the patcher it continuously downloads the files as if they are not there, even though they are when searching the folders in C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest II\UI\ProfitUI

Please help!!!

Is it all files or only some?
Allmost all maps (pics) are flaged as EXISTS and should not be dowwnloaded again.
Try clear the cache from Options, don't think it helps but you never knew :)

The update is only 5.99Mb of files and appears to be the same files each time.

I have discovered the file which is causing profit to stop working to be the equi_mainhud_map file which eq2maps downloads in to the profitui folder when previously it wasn't there. On removing it from the folder my UI works again but once again I am without EQ2maps.

Can you post what files get updated?

on doing a search on my pc for the file eq2ui_mainhud_map.xml I come up with 2 files, the one in the default folder and the one that eq2maps has downloaded in to the profitui folder, on trying to open them I am able to open the default folder one to edit it, but when I try this with the one that eq2maps has downloaded I get a message stating:


Not sure if that shed's any further light on the issue or not.

Really sounds like something is messing with the files so they do not get correctly written to disk. That's also why the updater keeps downloading them.

Can you post the broken eq2ui_mainhud_map.xml from the ProfitUI folder here as an attachment?

The files that gets re-downloaded are the ones having a MD5 value.
Somehow your computer or internet connection corrupts the files.
As the Updater use HTTP for downloading to avoid firewall issues there is no real error checking, this can break a file sometimes, but will get fixed next time you run the Updater. Somehow yours get corrupted files every time :/

OK, so anyone have a clue on how to get around this?? I've attached the mainhud_map.xml file which EQ2Maps downloads in to the profit folder as requested.

Could it by my windows firwewall or windows defender programs that are forcing the files to download corruptted? I've opened them up to try and look at the settings, but to be honest don't have a clue what I'm looking for.

Also is it standard that the profit updater does not download a mainhud_map.xml file or once again is it my dumb pc that is preventing that also??

ProfitUI Updater does not touch the map, use the EQ2MAP updater for that (which you can launch automatically from the ProfitUI Updater).

oh that's funny, I had at first seen the same with the line break before the BOM, but then I redownloaded to make sure and the line break wasn't there so I changed my post. :eek: (getting is again now though)

No, he is talking about the broken files to check whether it is the same problem with all of them. For example post these two:

\UI\ProfitUI\images\maps\map_qey_all_overlay.dds
\UI\ProfitUI\eq2map\zones_world.xml

The .dds has the same problem but the .xml looks fine (downloaded it twice). Definitely strange things happening there, maybe someone has an idea (I don't - maybe a proxy server messing with the files?).

What exactly is the problem? is it something I can go in to the files and edit myself to get them up and running?

Until somebody comes up with a better idea you should try downloading the manual EQ2MAP install and use that instead of the auto-updater.

Do you or eq2maps have enough (admin) rights to write to C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest II ???
You are using vista....

Well downloaded Landiins EQ2 Henchmen updater and it seems to have solved the problem, all files re-downloaded, mainhud_map.xml updated and I am back to playing with ProfitUI & EQ2Maps.

Not sure what the glitch is with the main downloaded but at leasst there is a work around, thank you to all that have taken the timer to try and help me out, it really is appreciated.

I had a similar problem once. I started from scratch (default eq2 installed only) then ran the map updater first then extracted profitUI and for some reason it works now. I don't really know how or why, but it solved my problems.

Im happy it works now.
To bad we could'nt find a solution for the MAP updater , but i have no clue :/
